Ts, you are getting the x340 prism which is capable of 3440x1440 @ 100hz. A rtx 2080 is very capable of running at 1440p@ 100 fps no problem. You want to buy rtx 2080 ti also can. As it will be able to run those badly optimize aaa titles at 1440p @ 100hz or you can play with ray tracing and DLSS with higher frame rates with a rtx 2080ti if you so choose to. Up to you.

To keep it simple rtx 2080 good enough for your x340 prism monitor. It's equivalent to the performance of the previous pascal king the 1080ti.

Intel or amd. If you want 20-30fps more and are willing to spend $100 bucks more for intel go for it. If you want to save the $100 and think the 20-30 fps improvement in games isn't worth it go for ryzen. Ryzen good for productivity and gaming while intel is better purely for gaming.

But I think even if you go for a ryzen 2700+ rtx 2080 combination its already more then powerful enough to fully ultilize that x340 prism monitor.

But do note that ryzen 3000 series is coming soon maybe coming out this year. It will most likely be better in terms of value/dollar vs both the ryzen 2000 series and the intel 9th gen that you are planning to purchase now. If can wait wait for ryzen 3000. If cannot wait then buy now. Intel if purely for gaming. Amd if purely for gaming and productivity work.

Don't need to think so much and get confused. Its really simple. Even a mid range pc that runs on ryzen 2600 or i5 9400 with a mid range gtx 1660 ti is powerful enough and adequate for your usage. Its your choice on how you want to spend your 2k+ budget.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Seem like there is some debate in regards to the processor and graphics card

1. Intel i7 9700k vs Ryzen 7 2700
2. RTX 2070 vs RTX 2080

Still not sure which ones I should get after reading the replies
Any comments regarding the above are greatly appreciated!

Intel i7 9700k (need a more expensive motherboard for overclocking) + RTX 2080 will be over your budget.

Or maybe I should just wait for Ryzen 3000 series...

That is assuming u are in no hurry to upgrade.
If you are able to buy ryzen 3000 series at launch price, it would be very likely for u to see HUGE cpu performance gains @ same price-better price for what you might pay for intel right now/upcoming intel launch

If cannot wait then just get Intel cpu. Ryzen 2000s has it draw backs, low clock speed and not as quite optimized in the game section. In terms of gaming performance it loses to the high end intel cpus.

9700K and 2700 price are so far apart! 9700K cpu alone cost $7XX. 2700 cpu alone cost $4XX. For the price of a 9700K cpu alone, you can buy a 2700 with a gigabyte X470 mobo and still got money to spare!

yeaa!! gotten it on the IT show for $1099. waiting for it to arrive, should be this friday

the monitor states 100hz, 120 overclock, is it save to keep it overclock at 120hz?

sorry forget to reply you.

yea its save to overclock but do check for frameskipping. some monitor after overclocking, have frame skipping issues.

By the way, u ordered from Dell in IT show right? I also bought my alienware monitor but i realise if u order from Dell directly, its all pre order and they dont have ready stock and must wait at least 2 weeks..crazy. They ask me to check with the other vendors in IT show that carry alienware, will have the same promo price, so i went a few booths down, saw courts and they also have the alienware monitor, ready stock somemore.. so just buy on the spot, cash n carry. I think even Best Denki/Challenger booth also have ready stock. You got to ask.

ahh! i'll have to check for the frame skipping then. I heard that it would potentially screw up the monitor, is that also possible?

Ok la i ordered from dell alr, not in a rush to get them. HAHA! Its coming this friday, also just nice all my stuff coming in displayport, extension cables etc. Waited 2 weeks, CANT WAIT!!

i give u a scenario of frame skipping. Example a character in a game moves from left to right. if frameskipping occurs, suddenly the character teleports to the right, the motion of the character moving smoothly from left to right is suddenly cut and u see the guy teleported to the right (of course this is exaggerating) u miss out certain frames that are suppose to be displayed. So the 144hz that you overclocked to or the 120hz that you overclocked your monitor to, is not true 144hz/120hz.

But i think the alienware monitor has very good QC, so its meant to be overclocked well to 120hz without any hiccups.

2) Yup, if you plan to get a 4k screen, be prepared to go all out on the hardware(GPU, CPU). When I mean 4k-ready, I mean comfortable gaming at least 40+ FPS at high settings, else you're honestly just wasting your money buying a 4k screen.

3) 32gb is honestly overkill since you dont stream nor do you have a heavy workflow(running VMs, rendering, IDEs etc.) Games never take up more than 16gb so you should just stick to that.

Regarding the 4k screen, it really depends on what kind of game you play right, Plenty of the more casual titles will run at 60fps just fine, and its not really a problem to lower the resolution to 1440p or 1080p if the GPU cant take it. The 4k screen better for editing/viewing photos and watching 4k videos.

If money no object, then getting 16GB sticks is better, because this will give you an upgrade path to 64GB later. The maximum amount of ram ryzen can take should be 64GB (4x16GB)

The 9600k ($415 on cybermind price list) is the better buy, its cheaper than the ryzen 2700 ($449) and performs significantly better for gaming. techpoweredup lists the 2700 running at 82% of the 9600k's framerate at 720p. https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Core_i5_9600K/12.html

Any idea estimated when Zyren 3000 will be out?

As mentioned earlier, Lisa Su announced during CES 2019 that AMD was looking to release the Ryzen 3000 series processors around mid of 2019. Because of the major shift to the 7nm architecture, there is heavy speculation that the official release date of the Ryzen 3000 processors will be 7/7 or July 7, 2019.

The news is highly reliable.
Reason : Retailers has the release price from AMD already. Leaks from bizgram has already proven that. intel 9000 series and amd 2000s are already seeing abit of price pressure, and it will get worse as the release date for ryzen 3000s draws closer as the price to performance :ratio for this series is just insane.

I do not understand the waiting game sometimes. There is always something that will be better than what you will wait for. Say tomorrow AMD releases the 3000 series only to be met with a counter by Intel a few months down the road decimating the 3000 series. I say just buy what is available now. CPU's are hardly a bottleneck for gaming unless you are playing in 1080p. At 1440p or greater, you are not going to notice anything substantial at all. Invest in a competent GPU instead of waiting for the latest and the best. You stand to save some $$$.

Most CPU's for the last few iterations only offered minor performance changes especially Intel; looking strictly from the IPC perspective. And for gaming, I think 6-8 cores will last a while. After moving to the 9700k, I realized that hyperthreading or SMT as what some of you might come to know of it, really offers minor performance improvements for the majority of game titles. If you look strictly from the gaming standpoint and seen reviews, the 9700k has outperformed ever so slightly the more expensive and hotter 9900k across majority of the game titles and running cooler. 5Ghz pretty much is a piece of cake on the 9600k/9700k. 9900k is a nightmare even with a slight overclock where you hit the thermal wall almost instantly. Physical Cores > Thread Cores.

I would also rather invest in a proven platform like the Z390 / AM4 platform as this has been out for a while and you will not have to bother much with stuff like RAM incompatibilities and so forth. The upcoming AMD and Intel CPU's and it's respective platforms would have isolated issues on their own at launch and that may detract your computing experience which is why sometimes newer is not always the best.

Just my 2c...

If you are aiming for ryzen 2700X all along then it's more worth it to wait for the 3000 IF they are out in like within 1 months. Else like you said... why wait???

9600K will likely not clock as well as a 8600k.

It is a borked 8+2 (Cores/GT Cores) chip with 2 cores fused off.

9900K yields ~4.9-5.3GHz (if you can cool)
9700K yields ~4.9-5.1GHz
9600K 5GHz won't be the norm.

8600K is a native 6+2 chip, 1 tier below 8700K. It has even documented 5.2GHz oc and very small numbers of 5.3. Downsides are that there's no solder TIM.

One of the sites that took a pic of the physical chip.
Note: 6+2 Intel chips are not this tall. But even so, the few MHz are not going to impact performance noticeably. However the vcore and power consumption needed to sustain higher clocks will vary.
