Recommended Motherboard and Intel Processor

Hi,

My old PC Intel Core 2 going to retire soon so thinking of upgrading the Motherboard and Processor.

I like to check with you whether any recommended Processor (i5 or i7) and Motherboard as I am using Gigabyte motherboard. I don't really play games on PC but more for web surfing and watch movie with 1GB Fibre plan.

bent pins,NIC failure within days of use

i would avoid this board at all cost

they don't have good QC on low end boards

i would say go with asrock

4160 is a very gd dual core, but I won't recommend g3258

I thought of the G series too but then just for a little bit more can get a better integrated graphics why not.

Probably I will want a PC with mid range specs and I know i7 is too expensive and I don't need such high end processor unless I play games so probably looking at i5 processor, please correct me if I am wrong.

I thought you are changing motherboard as well? If you ain't changing you might have problem changing CPU as well. Every CPU set have their own socket. Current generation of Haswell are using the LGA1150 socket so you will need a LGA1150 mobo to use these CPUs. Intel Core 2 is on LGA775 socket and thus your mobo will not support these new CPUs.

Which means, you have to use DDR3 RAMs. More than likely your RAM is DDR2.

u will do fine even with a pentium. i have one and it's surprisingly fast for the tasks u mentioned. u can even get the overclock version which can match even the i3.

u don't need anything higher than the i3 even for the next few years if it's just basic use.

Ok, my office PC already running on the older i5 processor so just worry the speed is slower than my office pc if I take i3.

You know some really old office PC running on 5400RPM HDD as OS drive and haven't been defrag for years, it will of cos be slow like turtle.

Ok. So any recommendation for i5 and motherboard? Asus or Gigabyte is good?

If you insist on an i5 then i5-4460 which is about $100+ more.

Mobo doesn't make a diff. H81 chipset.
