Haha bro your memory is power! I bought then from edetal. They used to have stocks at Front Row but no longer. You can just google for their address. I remember it's near Alexander road. They have a made to measure service now as their stocks are finished. I ordered a black pair from them awhile ago.

it has been a long time since i last updated. i almost couldnt find my own thread!

im still on the german volume training programme. i can tell that my body is really getting used to this, and so the rate of gain is tapering off.

the improvements i have made so far are:

bench 100kg - from about 80 reps with spots to low 90s reps without spots
dumb bell press 40kg - i usually complete a 100 reps as there are no more heavier dumb bells around. ive pestered the gym to bring in some bigger ones, but until then im just going to skip this exercise

pull ups - usually i complete 100 reps as well, but the form is awful. im trying to cut down on the reps and work on form. to be honest, if my form is strict, i doubt i can do more than a total of 50.

bulgarian splits - im up to 20kg dumb bells, for a total of 100 reps. i dont dare go heavier as im afraid my lower back cant take it. mostly i work on strict form to burn my quads and buns, and to get my heart rate up.

ive also seen improvements in other smaller body parts. instead of 4 days a week, ive recently added another day, where i just work on shrugs and lower back. very simple light exercises to strengthen my back, and heavy chest supported shrugs so that my traps wont look so embarrassing. so far so good!

the one thing i feel guilty about is that i no longer swim. my son is getting older now, and i really cherish the time i spend with him. i rush off to work out in the morning, and then rush back just in time for him to wake up from his nap. then its wrestling time! my weight is hovering around a 100kg now. as long as there is a gradual loss, im happy.

diet is still the same as always. mostly salmon and chicken, with raw vegetables. i have cheat meals at least twice a week, sometimes thrice. just kind of enjoy life more with my family.

i have to say, life is pretty good :D

i am a gym goer as well and i am sure you have seen much people doing the same thing like you did but with a much ugly physique eg. chest, arms, stomach all 3 big. chest and arms big doesnt mean it looks good. i know it can help to hide the belly when you wear tight fit shirts but it makes your body proportion really ugly. worst of all, it makes your look short. you see your muscle cutting you know. you carry heavy but because of your body fat, your muscle cutting not obvious at all. you lose 10kgs and you see your muscles again. you want to have a good looking body or just to carry heavy? previously i only focus on my biceps, triceps and chest forgetting about the abs, shoulders and back. i even cut down on cardio and gain some weight, luckily my gym buddy pull me back to the right track. just make sure you are on the right track. do what you need to do rather than what you like to do.

Bro, German Volume Training gave me good gains too.

But please be careful with the Bench Press and perhaps reduce the volume. You may want to Google 'bench press rotator cuff'

Quick update!

I did my legs today.

Bulgarian splits 20kg dumb bells
10 sets of 10 reps

Hamstring curls 95kg
10 sets of 12 reps

Single leg calf raises using the smith machine 40kg
6 sets of 10 reps

On a side note, I should try and visit this forum as often as I can! I have forgotten how much I can learn from here

Thanks for your reply bro! Congrats on your weight loss! You look really good now. It must have taken a lot of effort.

Your post made me think hard about why I'm satisfied with the rate of progress I'm experiencing. I think it boils down to different priorities. Having a good looking body with nice cutting comes in almost last. My days of chionging the beach are long over hehe. The reason why I want to work out is to lose weight and to gain strength, so that my lower back no longer hurts and I can play with my kid without it giving way. And I'm happy to report that my back is much stronger. So that's probably why I'm pleased with gradual weight loss as long as I'm progressively getting stronger.

But that's not to say that I don't respect power lifters and body builders. I do. Very different body shapes, although the dedication and sacrifice made are equally phenomenal. As such, I'm afraid I have to disagree with your opinion that thick arms, chest, back and waist are ugly.

Your reminder about my reasons for working out is very timely. Thanks again bro!

That's good bro! I thought I was the only one in this forum trying this programme. What kind of changes did you experience?

If you have rotator cuff problems from benches, I realise that issue could be flaring elbows. I used to feel aches in my left shoulder whenever I bench. What I did was to ease off the weights and work on form, keeping a relatively close grip so that I can keep my elbows very tight and close to my body. That pretty much solved the problem even when I tried heavier weights.

Plus, Xander or chay (I can't remember who) recommended face pulls to me, which is an incredibly rehabilitative exercise. I do it at least once a week.

@Ysatis

First off congratulations on your weight loss.
The reason why Reddit's weight loss is less pronounced stems from the fact that he is adding more muscle to his frame as his lifts in moderate rep ranges are improving. This addition of new muscle tissue causes his weight loss to be less drastic as muscle is more dense than fat. Also his goals are different.

i'm not saying that thick arms, chest, back and waist are ugly. a fat belly is ugly. example i have a 38inch waistline and in order to cover that i will have to pump my chest to like 46inch. do you think it will look good ? maybe it does if you are tall enough.

when i was 100kg+ , i looked at myself in the mirror and i still thinks that it is acceptable. until 1 day my colleague told me that i am very fat. he happened to be a part time trainer before at planet fitness so he told me he can help me for free. what he told me was before i need to start lifting, i must be at least normal bmi range. then from that day i start doing cardio 3-4 times a week. 1hour each time.

i didnt know i slim down until most of my colleagues told me. my uniform from xl size to m size. waistline 38 to 32. then i went to weigh myself.

20120402_091048.jpg

i went back to look at my photo, the feeling is different. i didn't expect myself to be so fat. when i was 100kg+ i look at myself and i didn't even feel that way. the feeling is totally different. i was like wtf, so fat like a pig.

when you slim down till 90kg and you look at your photo again, the feeling is totally different from what you see now.

most difficult part to train is abs and that is also the only part most people left to train ;)

once again good for you @ysatis.
maybe before you began your rant, you could have read his reply. Or start your own logging thread "to achieving abs". I'm quite sure we got the message the first time.

Damn, you are strong. May I know how long have you been training? And what rep ranges you used prior to the current ones in your log?

Thanks!

I had a great sleep last night, so instead of the wussy shrugs I'm supposed to do today, I decided to switch with my workout tomorrow and work on shoulders instead.

Ohp 50kg 90 reps over 10 sets
Leg lifts 86 reps over 10 sets

Face pulls 55kg 40 reps over 4 sets
Did a new exercise today using the cable machine. Sort of a cross over pull to work rear delts. Just did 2 sets at 20kg. Feels good! I'll probably do this next week again.

I realise my leg lifts didnt improve much, although my mid section feels much stronger and harder. I'll just keep at it and hope the numbers go up.

Haha I'm happy for u man. I can tell you really want others to experience the same great feelings too. Even though my aims are different from yours, I'll keep exercising as well.

Actually I lift heavier simply because I'm heavy. But thanks for the encouragement!

I can't really remember how long I've been training. Less than 2 years for sure. Probably no more than a year and a half. I used to train when I was younger though.

Before I started in the gvt, I did very typical exercises with reps ranging between 12 to 6. Thanks to the bros here I decided to change some stuff, and experienced more growth!

Did a quick workout this morning before work.

Dips + 30kg
90 reps over 10 sets
Chin ups + 10kg
90 reps over 10 sets

Triceps extention 80kg
24 reps over 3 sets
Hammer curls 25kg
28 reps over 3 sets

Dips are really good for working triceps. Too bad they hurt my elbows if done too often :(

Wah today I'm welly proud of myself.

Bench 100kg - 99 reps! Yay! But the last rep has a bit of spot.

Pull ups - 97 reps. Still the same lousy form.

Pull over 30kg - 30 reps

Db rows 30kg - 30 reps

For some reason I was on fire today. If I repeat this next week I will bump up my weights by 5%.

Last night I gorged myself on sliced pork and beef, mushrooms and vegetables at crystal jade. Their steamboat buffet is awesome. Then I slept before 10pm. In the morning I drank some creatine and coffee, and ate a slice of peanut butter bread.

This, my brothers, is the secret to breaking personal records. Crystal jade steamboat. You heard it here first.

Quick update!

Bulgarian splits 22.5kg 100 reps
I was more concerned about my lower back and tightening my core, so form was definitely not as good.

Hamstring curl 95kg 100 reps

Calf raises 60 reps
I used the cable machine today for this exercise as someone was using the smith. Gym is getting crowded now. Sometimes up to 5 people.
