I disagree. You could argue that the Mediatek Chipset has worse power efficiency than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730 since its fabricated on the 12 nanometer process but there are multiple reasons why Redmi went for the Mediatek Helio G90T Chipset rather than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730.
1. It distinguishes itself from the crowd since it uses Mediatek’s Chipset compared to Qualcomm.
2. The Camera ISP of Mediatek Helio G90T is significantly stronger than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730. It supports 64 Megapixel Images along with support for 4 rear cameras compared to just 48 and triple cameras for Qualcomm.
3. The GPU is stronger than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730. But trades off in CPU performance.
With all of this in mind, Redmi’s Note 8 will be a true success and will outsell the rmn7.
People choose Snapdragon SOC for some reasons:
1) Better firmware support. Update frequency are more consistent.
2) More battery efficient in long run. Hardly people cares about the performance of the phone. Benchmarks doesn't prove anything. In real life scenario, people care more about whether their phones are not hot to touch after game for long period of time and don't eat too much battery juice.
3) If Google can rely on 12MP and take wonderful picture. you will know that Megapixels are just a number game. Even if i give you 100MP but your image processing are no where near Gcam HDR+ quality. you are just as lousy as many phones out there.
U think it's a true success? i strongly doubt it. Never ONCE a MTK phone sells as good as SD phone.
btw, Xiaomi have the largest 3rd party custom roms available and many people buy Xiaomi phones partly because of the extensive roms available, some immediately flashed to their own preferred rom once they got it, because they know MIUI sucks badly.
