1. No easy way to disable ads. For system apps like Music, Video, Security, Cleaner, Downloads, go into their respective app settings and turn off "Receive Recommendations". Go into phone settings, search Authorisation & revocation then revoke authorisation for msa.

2. You need to understand it's a $200+ phone, for the price, the image quality is good enough. I understand that Xiaomi may have gone overboard to keep marketing the 64MP camera but nonetheless, we need to keep our expectations in check. Developers are working hard to work on a stable GCam port, current versions are a little buggy, buy are able to get slightly better image quality than the stock camera app.

I tried the GCAM app, which doesn't really help because it is extremely buggy and laggy.

This phone would be superb if not for the camera. I went to the xiaomi store and there are posters marketing this phone as the first phone with 64 MP camera sensor.

Any other xiaomi phone with better camera and micro sd expansion?

fast charging itself does not damage battery, but heat and charging to high capacity do.

They're not wrong. It is indeed the first phone with a 64 MP camera.

The problem is you thought MP is everything. And that a $259 phone will beat a $1000++ phone.




Plus you clearly didn't do your homework. All the online reviews say that only one of the four cameras is decent. That already tells you something.

Based on my understanding, if you do fast charge, you are charging at close to 2A. So the heat can reduce the live span of the battery.

This phone supports Qualcomm Quick Charge. QC technology is to boost the voltage so that the current going into the phone is lower, eg the rated V and I for the stock charger is 12V at 1.5A (at 18W). Lower current, lower heat.

I think it's the same idea as why we transmit electricity over power cables at such high voltage.

The charger that comes with RMN8P is rated at:

- 5V 3A (15W)
- 9V 2A (18W)
- 12V 1.5A (18W)

How does the phone and the brick decide which to use ? Say, at full power 18W, it can be 2A or 1.5A, how does the QualComm chip decide which to use ?

I normally see 5V from my Accubattery app. I don't see 9V or 12V.

I normally don't use up all the battery, I charge around 60-70 to full. Since I don't have to wait a long time to charge, I don't use the Quick Charger. I just use a cheaper 3 port charger. Though it says QC 3.0, I see it does not have the power to send so much current into the phone.

Another thing is that lousy charger can damage the phone also. All these rating are theoretical, if the charges put QC3.0 and does not comply or does not regulate the current properly, also will damage the battery.

If you need to quickly charge, then use the 18W. If you can wait, then can use a lower power. I think the best is to check the temperature <= because it's the temperature that damages the battery.

My take is Redmi Note series phone cameras are pegged to the camera performance of flagship phones 2-3 years back. Hence, the relatively low price reflects the technology in these Redmi Note phones. These mid-range phones are still very value for money if you are not into the cameras.

you have 8 pro, right ? It comes with 18W charger, right ? Also this 10W, then charge slower only... ok lah if you not rushing.

I bought the Motorola original (seller claim original) 18W at $4.90/-.

I have cheapo QC 3.0 charger 3 port. So sometimes, I worry, overheat, I charge other things as well so that the current is lower. But then cheapo ones, I think the circuit may not be so good and cannot regulate the current so well.

use a normal usb charger lor. If the charger don't support fast charging than no fast charging will happen.

Just to share. My previous phone was fine all the way until one day, I silly silly decided to watch a video from my NAS. It's in the mkv format (I think it matters also). And when battery was low, I charge.

So charging + video + wifi.... my battery went up to 49% or so... got bloated. I thought the circuitry will handle it but no.

Also, I suggest that we should reboot our phones every now and then (I do daily - auto shutdown after whatsapp do the back up at about 2am) and boot up in the morning. I think there could be rogue programs (or program that go silly after running for too long) that could cause problems and sometimes, cause the battery to go bad.
