if considering export set, i will suggest to consider alldocube iplay 50 pro
same cpu, g99, cheaper than redmi pad
but no warranty

check reviews online first
check official alldocube store on lazada, shopee, aliexpress to see which side is cheaper

side benefit, has LTE

there's even a cheaper model, iplay 50, but slower cpu
I'm looking at alldocube iplay50 pro now. Some other considerations are Redmi Pad, Lenovo Pad 2022 (non-Pro and Pro). Of course local set with warranty will be better but seems like some of them are OOS or shops are selling export sets anyway.

My use case is mainly for media consumption (shows/YouTube), light internet surfing/reading, mainly used at home. My main desired features will be quality of screen (around 10" size, quality and brightness), speakers (quality and loudness) and battery (capacity and charging speed). Budget preferably below $250, if I can get decent one below $200 even better.

Re: media consumption, do note that many of the china brand tablets do not support netflix in HD

[edit]: did a check, based on this review, redmi pad seems to support netflix in HD

I bought the Lenovo Pad 2022 for my bro-in-law as a present... it's a decent entry level tablet... it has no global model equivalent so what you buy is basically the China ROM set... can set to English and can uninstall all the Chinese apps if you don't like them... I did a full review in this China Tablets thread... it's smooth and fast enough for just watching videos... my bro-in-law uses it a bit like a 2-in-1 laptop for simple work productivity...

You can check my short review here: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/china-tablets-to-recommend.3194109/post-144778088

It's sold out yesterday on xiaomi shopee, not even listed 6 July+ midnight when I checked. But i remember stacking vouchers on past shopee sale, as low as 260-270 for 6gb

Very good chance not restocking(have to get from ah beng store now) and past months stock really is clearance since redmi pad 2 iscoming. It's a downgrade if the rumoured specs are true

You can try Lenovo Pad 2022 ba.. I missed the Redmi promo too, so settled for Lenovo instead. For watching YouTube or your own downloaded videos it's very worth the price, image is clear, screen is nice and bright indoors, sound is pretty clear and loud for indoor too. I think if it's purely for video watching, you can consider.

I tried some productivity task, reading stuff on Firefox works fine, but once you start to have multiple apps open (split screen) and try to do some productivity stuff (was planning trip itinerary) it starts to show it's limit.

if you just want a tablet for watching video, can consider

honor pad x8 lite
$190 at the moment

huawei matepad se
note: no google play, but many apps can find in app gallery
$228 at the moment

redmi pad has better specs, hence the price also more expensive, but u may not need redmi pad if just using to watch videos

Got this tablet to replace my dead Mi Pad 4.

Luckily Redmi Pad got LOS just in time.

MIUI was pinging home intensively, generated too much WI-FI traffic that it interferes with my bluetooth mouse.
My MX Master 2S was stuttering badly for periods with the tablet connected to WI-FI.
Checked my router and saw the many connections to ad and tracking URLs of mi.com, blocked by my router adblock.

consider buying from official store or from stores which have been known to be selling local sets

dvtech sells both local sets and export sets, personally would not take the risk

can consider rwm? $328
https://redwhitemobile.com/phone/xiaomi-redmi-pad-wifi-6-128gb/
p.s. redmi pad was on promo $309 at official xiaomi lazada or shopee recently
I know but my fingers too slow missed the promo. Curious why red white don't create shopee seller account
