I have been working in this company for 25 years and am officially retrenched today.

Should I be happy or sad? I am above 50 and currently is tough for me to find a job as I only have a poly diploma.

Any advice?
I'm sorry to hear that Bro Godbleseu! :(

Moi also kenna retrenched on 10th June 2024 for a company moi worked for 2.5 years when moi was 32 years old... :(

Moi cope by finding a job immediately by reducing moi asking salary... :(

Sad to hear, Godbleseu (God bless). Why you did not upgrade to degree in engineering part-time at NUS or NTU over the 30 years you've worked?

1. Update your CV and apply to relevant or jobs you are interested to try (even outside your field). Send as many as you can. Accept all interviews, lower salary expectations.

2. Enroll in courses under Skillsfuture especially those related to AI.

3. Take a break, can be a short vacation or getaway.

4. Pray and give thanks.

Hope you find the life you want.

Sorry to hear that but the 24 months payout sound good.

Don't expect to get the same celery for your next job.

If you own a car, try part time phv.

Wow I’m so envious of TS.

At 50+, I would probably be thinking of retiring already. Now he has free 24 months salary.

Plus can stack with the 6 months govt retrenchment support benefits, so 30 months.

Assuming TS is 55 years old in advance, it means he is paid until 57.5 years. If he bored, he can find some low paying relaxing security job, every month earning $2k. His total income when he reaches 60 will still be more than if he didn’t get retrenched.

Congrats TS!

You worked so long for them. Did you give you some money?

Resist the temptation to dump that lump sum into any wonderful investment people promise you. If can drive grab part time, do that to get some pocket money while considering your next move

Dear Godbleseu,

I feel you. The retrenchment benefit is tax-free. I believe your HR will be providing some relief package to counsel you.

Confidence for the future. More good years ahead... Let us take Singapore forward together.
Thank you.

will advise to park that 23 months of salary into some safe returns assets..
and take a few days off to re-adjust yourself etc..
after which, can start applying jobs... remember to apply for gov benefits..
hopefully your kids or housing paid off.. jiayou bro!
