I bought my current gaming desktop PC second-hand from Carousell back in 2021.

MSI MAG B550M Mortar WiFi (MS-7C94)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
16GB DDR4 RAM (2 × 8GB)
512GB SSD
1TB HDD

I later upgraded it by purchasing a Radeon RX 6600 XT separately. A few weeks ago, I happened to come across this thread. Coincidentally, my PC and my MacBook Pro, both broke down at around the same time.

After a week of trying to diagnose the issue, and with help from Google Gemini, I found out that my HDD was completely cooked. As soon as I unplugged it, my PC started up without any problems.

It seems the constant Windows updates, along with all the caching and background disk activity over the years, have taken a toll on my HDD, causing it to fail and become corrupted. According to Google Gemini, my HDD was "choking" from the sheer amount of read and write.

So, currently, living with my desktop PC without an HDD. Wondering if anyone here can let me know, how can i manually retrieve my files in my HDD? Gemini told me to to get a USB cable, remove the hard disk from my desktop, and connect it to my computer via USB cable? Thanks

**thanks to this thread, almost got toxicated to upgrade to 9060XT :ROFLMAO:

thanks. i'm looking at the cable only, not the enclosure. But google gemini told me, need to buy the one with power cable, as it needs power to spin up the disk inside. the 2.5" once unable to power up the 3.5.

I saw the one with power cable is $9

You should create your own thread.
Since you mention your HDD spoil.

Is there:
1) Any clicking sound?
2) Can it still be detect?

Cuz even if you connect through a USB adapeter or dock.
If there's clicking sound the HDD have mechanical fault thus need to approach
data recovery to recover the data.

However professional data recovery is very expensive.
Since you brought second hand who knows the HDD already started to have issue.

ok. It's not very big issue, i don't have much documents in my HDD. No clicking sound, still can detect HDD (i think).

Because when i connect my HDD, the computer take ages to boot up, the motherboard screen keep turning and loading. But when i removed the HDD, it booted up instantly. Hence, google gemini suggested the HDD is choked.

HDD can't choke. :s22:
There's a possiblity there's bad sector with the HDD so you have to replace it.
When there's bad sector it takes very long to read that is why Windows startup slow.

Download Crystaldiskinfo check what's the health.

The Diagnostic LED is both CPU and DRAM?
If so suggest bring this motherboard for checking, if they check OK.
That means the RAM got issue.

Take note Crucial RAM these days no more exchange, they do refund now
as Crucial products have EOL since last year after they kill off the brand.
