and the mini-pci i the sager NP8662 is only for bluetooth , wifi , and 3G module...
but i guess there must be another minipci for tvtuner? in sager 9XXX version

Yea, that will be the NP9280, you can see the picture as attached:

The 3rd port from the left is the CATV port. It's mentioned in the manual that it's an internal mini-PCI card, so all you have to do is to plug in antenna to view free to air TV.

However, the option for TV tuner on most sager online configurators state the TV tuner as an external USB one, with the model TVT-6010. On clevo's product website, this TVT-6010 is a completely external USB dongle tuner (like those from WinTV, etc) and not internal.

So I wonder will the NP9280 already have the tuner internally by default.

Any clarifications please!

shouldnt be included...you know...theres nothing free in business :D

i think the reason sager still put the port there , because....it is a multimedia gaming notebook...so...all must have one :D
its way different situation in sager 8662 where the laptop almost got no space to fit the ports on

Unfortunately, no. There will be no tuner installed by default. You have to either get one through the configuration process, or buy one at your local Challenger :)

The NP9280 is generally the "North American" version. It will most probably not have the CATV port. However, the NP5797 has one. We actually allow users to buy with an internal TV tuner and install it. However, if there are no ports, there will be no internal TV tuner.

i7 sager 9280 temperature

anyone has used the i7 sager 9280 before? need inputs on the how the temperature is like..especially on load. im intending to get one as a desktop replacement for video encoding. currently on my desktop when during the "2nd pass" stage of encoding (which is the most load intensive stage), the cpu load is 100% and the temperature is 80degrees..quite hot...lol. so was wondering if the same will happen if i get the i7 sager 9280 thanx in advance

Here are some pics of the NP9280 showing temp all round the system at load. It's taken from a review I read somewhere but forgot the URL. Think they are running cinebench or something, the temps indicated are in fahrenheit, not degrees, btw.

Generally feedback so far for cooling for this model is excellent, quite typical for clevo built laptops.

Mmmm how you define HD-ready? Cus for TV even sub 1368 horizontal res screens are called "HD ready". 1080i screens are truely HD, not the 720i ones (imo).

For PC screens they are labeled more differently in pixels or called using their naive names from the graphics array interpretation. Which most layman may call XGA (1024x768), WXGA (1280x768), UXGA, WUXGA and so on.

You can also use the screen sizes as an indicator.

Generally if you are looking at 12" - 14" - 15" screens (wide) chances they will be 1280 horizontal res (1280x768 or 1280x800). There are some 15" or 15.4" laptops that are WUXGA (1920x1200), otherwise chances they will be the most 1680x1050 and for the low end ones, 1280x800.

If you are looking at 17" - 18.4" screens high chances they are already HD or larger than HD screens, 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 (which we can unofficially call 1200i). These HD laptops in question will be the NP9280 and NP9850.

In laptop screen terms that will be 1920x1080 resolution. In 16:9 aspect ratio. The NP9850 has that resolution.

If you are looking to output that res to a TV, then any modern laptop can do that via VGA, DVI at best HDMi port as well.

hi all.....recently i got mail package from HK...
the remedy to np8662 overheating problems...is , to replace the dvd slot with a special caddy that you can put HDD onto it...

the HDD itself is running on SATA FULL speed , and i tried to bench it using HDTune pro...
the results? are astonishing...no drops of the read speed whatsoever...

and it runs cool too..even cooler than my old toshiba 200gb harddrive that i put into the hdd slot...
post the pictures soon :D

The caddy is like a harddisk blank right? The same kind we see in servers to allow airflow when there is no HD installed in a slot.

ah that will be cool, be awaitng ya pictures when do :)

Ah yes, of course! In degrees!

From the feedback from sager users in the forum, generally you won't get much heat problems. I think the main problem with their laptops is just the dated look!

Boil water? if you can boil water, that will be very stylo as well! :D dual purpose.

This is the overall shape of the HDD caddy that will be inserted
Image494.jpg

theres a part where the caddy doesnt fit , so it must be trimmed...actually this caddy is intended for lenovo T400 / T500...but since that the caddy shape is so similiar with np8662...many people buy it and mod the casing of caddy itself so that it would fit into the DVD slot...i have ordered the DVD bezel from MUCRO aswell to replace the caddy front bezel so it looks like it is real DVD drive :)
Image496.jpg

the caddy include 4 screws also , so just screw those mini mini parts into your HDD...it acts as a holder for the hdd so it wont move around when plugged into the caddy...
Image498.jpg
theres your SATAII slot..compatible with all sata HDDs...and the good thing you can plug in 12mm TOO...thats a good news...imagine plug in the WD 1TB HDD...you can have a maximum of 1.64TB of storage space if combined with 640GB seagate hdd in the main hdd slot..POWER MAN!!!
Image499.jpg

its blur...sorry....but this is the part you need to trim in order for the caddy to fit inside...
Image500.jpg

but notice one thing..there is another mod other than trimming the caddy part...
that is to drill two holes behind the caddy so that you can actually put the screws to lock the caddy in the position , just to make sure that the caddy it properly locked..

another thing is that...by removing the ODD(optical disk drive) means every time you need to use the ODD ,you MUST turn off the computer and replace the caddy with ODD....theres NO WAY to remove it while the SYSTEM is running or things will go haywire...
1st solution is to buy external HDD that can BOOT from BIOS through USB...THIS IS IMPORTANT....if you dont have USB ODD that can boot through BIOS means you cannot do any windows installation by booting directly into the optical device

2st solution , buy a DVD-rom caddy
like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-slim-BOOTAB...s_ET?hash=item3a4e6dda68&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

this is the item...i buy from this seller...had to say it is a reputable seller...and the price is also DAMN CHEAP...

regarding this optical drive caddy thing...thats why i still choose to use the ibm T61 / T400 cos the optical drive is hot swappable. and u also have the option of putting a 2nd sata hdd into the optical drive bay via the adaptor tray so u can have hot swappable 2nd hdd. personally i dont burn or read discs that often so its a really nice option.
