hehe my was
3DMark Score 9948
SM 2.0 Score 4710
SM 3.0 Score 4540
CPU Score 2221
Result name Untitled
Date Jun 29, 2009 11:49
Pro user No
OS Microsoft Windows Vista
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8700
CPU Speed 2527
GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 170M <--- funny my system show NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260m

Not sure if you have read my prvious post before, but this error can be fixed if you download the 3DMark06 1.10 release patch. It will then read the GPU specifications correctly from your device manager.

For those testing with 3DMark06, they're just scores that determine the performance of the machine but it does not equate or tally to real life gaming performance. Scores can be "cheated" or increased with a higher end CPU eg. Quad Core or overclocking. The SM02 and SM03 scores are better off used if you compare with GPU-to-GPU alone.

You better check jus in case whether will downvolting void the warranty or not.

Undervolting will not break warranty; you're not replacing anything and its just a down volt of the CPU to use less current.

And for those who are wanting to try UV'ing...

If correctly done, the chain reaction for UV'ing thus consume less power, saving battery life and reducing heat dramatically. Coupled with a MX-2/AS5 application onto both the CPU core + GPU will yield cooler results.

If by Undervolting you get a BSOD, then increase the voltage up by one step higher in RMClock. The BSOD happens if you undervolt its voltage too low. The BSOD is harmless. I've experienced it many times before. If it BSODed, RMclock will reset its to its stock CPU voltage automatically after the reboot. Just remember to use the next higher voltage that you last used prior that caused a BSOD to happen.

Remember to do a half an hour stress test using Orthos, Prime95 or IntelBurn after UV'ing to check its stability. Likewise increase the voltage one step higher if you noted a BSOD during the stressing.

CPUGenie isn't free, which is what I do not like about. RMClock is fine. Make sure you go to Advanced CPU Settings section and under the CPU type selection, select "Mobile" then restart. It will help to read the voltages correctly.

for the processor and GPU part...yes it is overheating...the GPU maximum is 90 while processor is 70
have you installed the latest drivers...?

Yeah, I do not like the sound of that GTX 260M heating up to 99*C. if you're hands on, you may want to try accessing its cores. (remove the heat sink first, then the copper casing) and apply thermal paste on it. Yes, thermal paste can be applied to GPUs as well.

I will gladly assist if you need more help cooling down your GTX 260M. There are other strategies like volt modding to run cooler using Nibitor (It's the "RMclock" for GPUs) which I have tried but I wouldn't really recommend it as it's quite risky as it requires flashing the vBIOS and if you don't know or unsure what you're doing.

Haha, I noticed you like space sims a lot. What other space-themed games do you have btw? I'm feeling a bit nostalgic after your post. :s13:
Ya like space sims but lately only X3TC. I tried TARR Chronicles but it was horrible. DarkStar One supposed to be good but that time din try cuz playing X3R :)

@arcana75

it's a bit loud i think.

Demo game? Ermm maybe u downloaded the wrong thing? It's a benchmarking software. U run the thing watch it go thru 4 scenes then a text file is created that details ur rig and the FPS u attained for the 4 scenes plus an average FPS result in a popup... Read my review for the full picture or the MSI GT627 review which also contains results of this benchmark.

Overclocking is highly possible, using software. Take note, though that some models do not support soft overclock.

If you're wanting the hardware overclock, only the "X" versions of the intel processors enables overclocking through the BIOS inteface. :)

I tried all the things that were suggested (undervolt, apply thermal paste on GPU). I did undervolt my CPU to a stable 1.000V. But when I tried 3DMark06, my ACPI temps (which I'm told reflects my CPU temps) were above the danger zone of 75C, although the CPU temps themselves were fine. At furmark, temps still remained high though (with the GPU at 94C with aircon on, and 99C with aircon off), and this is even with the GPU throttling itself down to avoid overheating. I'm sure it would be even higher if there was no auto throttling.

Maybe I'll buy a notebook cooler and see how that goes...

np8662 should be ok running games even without notebook coolers..
in your case..well..i should say there are abnormalities....how about getting it to mucro for quick inspection? also that in some place in simlim got sell AS5...you can buy the AS5 and get it applied at mucro(pc dreams) at same time :)

here is the list of shops selling Arctic Silver 5

btw....how long does it take to order sager? from checkout until laptop reach door
i am thinking to get one next week after i deal with my exams....(finally...after biting nails for a long time)
