Scam or not?

I rental a car from XX rental company.

Returned the car in good condition and owner of the rental company walked around the car and said all is okay and I left.

Got a msg from the rental company a few hours later claiming that there was a dent on the bumper and car was dirty despite me vacuuming it before returning it. Insisted that the check was done by the mechanic.

Currently the rental company refuses to pay me back my deposit and insist for me to pay back the repair for the small dent at the rear bumper which cost $200++.

After disputing on this, the owner threaten that he would send to change the whole bumper and make me pay for the whole bumper instead of the small dent.

Has anyone encounter something like that?

so i ask him to let me bring back to my mechanic to access, he ask me to get my mechanic to travel to his rental company as he already rental it out to someone else?!!WDFFF

This is my first time renting a car and yes i also thought after he check the car and said okay means okay. He didnt ask me to sign any documents too and i didnt know of any documents needed to sign.

Now he whatsapp a few hours later and said his mechanic found this dent on the bumper.

Today when i spoke with him again and he acted all gangster insisting that if i dont pay then he will ask the mechanic to repair the whole bumper and send the bill to me instead.

I didnt know of any sign off that is needed when i return the car. He simply just walked around the car to see see look look then said okay can go already.

I was wondering if this dispute goes on with the rental company, who can i approach for help regarding such issues?

Will the rental company be able to just anyhow charge me with such an invoice?

I rented cars in Thailand. Usually we will go one round to check the car before n after return, then sign a document.

You can just move on and forfeit the $200 rather than looping your story here

i think its the principle issue here, he is charging me more than my deposit for the small dent.

so you mean to allow such scam rental companies to continue going around scaming people when you know of such cases by asking to forfeit the deposit ?

Nope nothing. he simply said can leave

$200 is a cheap lesson to gain this experience in life.

In the future, people will scam for a bigger amount in all aspects of life.

It's not the end though, you can submit to CASE. The car rental side may still have to provide evidence.

He can't do anything 1. He can send funny lawyer letters to u but v useless.

You didn't take back your deposit before leaving that's your problem.
You don't need to go on looping and add spices.

Now he don't budge, you don't want to pay.
So what's your next logical option?

Yes he sent me a photo of the dent 6 hours after returning the car.

From the time till that photo you received- 6 hours, alot of things can happen. You have some chance to debate it out.
Adv to you: Hand over car all goes well and 6 hours later you were notified about the dent.

Dis-adv to you: No agreement/documents available.

Seek CASE out and see what they can advise you.
