The difference in the HSF height is quite substantial. I feel they may stick to only the Wraith Stealth height since it is rated for 65W processors. Considering that the laptop Renoirs are coping very well with very poor cooling solutions in laptops (even the 45W ones), I feel a Wraith Stealth should manage an Ryzen 3 or 5 APU quite easily.

As for the prices, just trying to manage your expectations. My take is that it will likely cost about the same as the current Zen 2 CPUs by virtue that you are getting another APU that will also cost $$. And being a monolith design, as oppose to the chiplet design, there will be cost involved too.

Don't have to speculate. Another few more months and we will know.

Hmm interesting theory on the fan allowance but I am expecting some sort of improvement from the A300

Yeah need to wait for prices to be released so can compare new deskmini and Asus PN50

I'm following online news quite closely, I think 4000 APU will launch in Jul or that's what I hope for haha

The only sad thing of this set is it dun support NVme ssd....... Only sata3 drive....... Else all is good for this....

Just chanced upon this thread while looking for a reliable mini PC that is able to handle basic office excel work and web browsing. Was deciding between Asus minipc with Intel J4005 or i3 at a similar price lol.

Now I'm considering between this and AS Vision Mini instead. I suppose I'll have to send it back to China for RMA should anything happens to this unit, if that is correct
As compared to having local support from Aftershock for the Vision Mini, but the price hits over $500 for Athlon 3000G with OS and $600 with Ryzen 3 3200G with OS.

Or are there any better alternatives?

build one yourself with deskmini from lazada with citibank coupons, buy 3200g from amazon.sg, buy second hand laptop rams for 30-40. reuse ssd if you have. will be below 500 with local warranty for case, psu and motherboard

If you are getting it with OS, it will surely add quite a substantial cost to it. But you can be sure that the OS is from proper channel. In my opinion, the AS Vision Mini offers the best value when you configure it with a Ryzen 5 3400G. The reason is because for 3200G (+121), while 3400G (+165). The difference is 44 bucks, as compared to you buying the CPU separately, the 3200G should be around 120 bucks, and 3400G @ around 220 bucks.

sounds fair, probably gonna try search up on how to build one using the parts *ain't no diy experience/knowledge*

if not I could consider getting it straight from AS, tho probably gotta pay more for the OS.

it is easier than normal diy since you only need to put cpu, mount heatsink, snap in ram and slot in ssd.

Normal diy still need to put in power cables properly, fiddle with front panel input and usb header, audio header, graphics card

I just checked the minimum configuration for AS Vision Mini and it is a good deal at $399 (not sure of any other charges) without operating system:

- Barebone, Athlon 3000g, 4gbx1 RAM, 256gb NVME, No OS.

When I bought the barebone from TechDeal it was about $330 last year. The extra $60+ for CPU, RAM, NVME is worth it. I won't buy any of their addon but if I must buy I might upgrade the CPU to 3200g for extra $120. Reason is because if there is any fault with the machine and we have to bring back to Aftershock then the barebone and cpu they cannot reject the warranty. The other items added onto the set should not void the warranty.

ram upgrade to 16gb for less than $100 is also worth. 3 year warranty with 1 year onsite also good and not much more expensive than diy

I actually almost pulled the trigger on the Vision Mini more than a month ago. Personally, if I were to DIY using a DeskMini that I buy from say Lazada, it would have cost me at least 500 bucks if I get brand new parts. Taking prices before discount, Ryzen 3 3200G (120+), Asrock Deskmini A300 without Wifi(259), a pair of sodimm (about 90 from Amazon), and a 256GB SSD (say around 50 bucks). So total works out to be around 519 bucks.

AS Vision Mini is about 615 bucks now with about the same config. It used to be even cheaper because they use a 512GB SSD previously instead of a 256GB now.

I personally feel that we should have a mini PC at home. Keep as backup also can. I have a gemini Intel CPU mini PC that cost me only $300. Even though I have since moved on to other devices I still keep it as a backup. Last week when my Deskmini was hospitalized I just took out the older mini PC and I can continue my normal life. When not in use I tuck it away at one corner in my cupboard. I feel that we should just pair the minimum spec for mini PC. No point ramping it to the max. Can surf HWZ Forum can watch YouTube can liao.

DIY is generally a superior option when you want customization. But the downside is also that you need to maintain it on your own. For example, if it is faulty, it is our responsibility to then go and troubleshoot. I see 2 issues with troubleshooting, (1) time, and (2) lack of spare parts to test.

Honestly, I don't mind maintaining my own rig. But being a family man now, I rather outsource PC building and maintanence, instead of outsourcing my kids' learning and play time since I can play or teach them myself.
