For those looking for a good mini PC, I saw the Minisforum B550 being sold on Lazada @ about 537 bucks for the barebone system (including cooling fan, 120W power brick and GPU bracket). I spotted this late last night and with the discounts, I was able to get it to around 470 bucks. I think it is a great mini PC even though the CPU may not be the fastest now. But the ability to install a PSU and a dedicated GPU will make this a formidable small form gaming rig.

Was thinking the same. You can source around and build a small volume mini-ITX for less than $450 without the CPU/GPU/RAM/SSD/PSU. The advantage of the box is when you just want to run it as a SFF, it's low power and small. But once the need for the GPU comes in, that advantage is lost.

I'm also not sure I want my GPU openly exposed to dust and all - my place gets quite dusty.

External GPU will pick up.

USB4 is nowhere near as fast as a proper PCI-E 3.0 x16 though. I am no fan of GPU dock though. The cost of the dock itself may cost more than this bare bone rig. I agree it’s not cheap, but it is small and looks quite versatile.

I’ve thought about this and I think you are really paying for the form factor here.

External GPU can use for years to come with other system.
This system is limited to one system and AM4 only.

So the difference really boils down whether you prefer a gimped experience using the external GPU dock due to limited bandwidth or stuck with a single system. Both are not ideal, but it depends on individuals’ preference. For me, if I slap a card on it, I would prefer to get as much performance out of it.

I have not gotten it, but merely just sharing it. Again, I think as someone who likes to try out new things, I feel this is something quite interesting. May not suit everyone for sure and everyone have their own preferenceS.

Agree the Asrock X300 is cheaper, but can it run dedicated graphics? And building a mini ITX system with dGPU, is it that portable? I am sharing this because I think the concept is quite interesting, rather than taking a single reviewer‘s opinion. Anyway, this is just for sharing In case people are interested. I don’t see the reason for sharp criticism. At the end of the day, it may not work for you (or based on whatever person’s opinion that you made that decision), but it may be something that people may find interesting. If that is the case, then might as well just spend on a laptop and get both a good CPU and GPU which solves the problem no? But I think this concept is kinda interesting, thus, just sharing. In any case, all the alternatives have their own merits.

Well, some like it, some hate it. As a gamer, I think it is interesting. LTT reviews I normally just casual watch for entertainment, coz their tech set up I usually get to learn more on disaster and negative demo than useful tech and best practices. When it comes to reviews of product they are usually more judgemental and critical, which may be good at times, but good to watch from tech enthusiast and gamers point of view too.​

Asrock Deskmeet X300 and B660 are now available in Spore market. Distributed by Tech Dynamic. I can see postings in Carousell. Deskmeet can take in dedicated graphic up to 20cm in length. My friend bought Deskmeet X300 from China and he is very happy with the machine. He is now poisoning me to change my Deskmini A300.

I am not pulling the trigger because I think B660 is a better buy due to the pcie 4.0. But my existing CPU is Ryzen and I have to cough up more honey to get B660 plus components.
