But I prefer the environment which UB provides (projects, assignments, etc). UOL is sort of a risk with just 1 exam at the end.

hello, it all depends on what do you want to do. It is very hard to answer such a broad question.

Hey lemonbaton,

The best way to get an estimate is to talk to one of the staff during the open house. If there isn't any coming up soon and you need to make a decision before the may intake, the best I can advise is to look at the brochure on sociology. There's three areas that you must fulfill your 120 credits. You definitely need to take all 36 credits under "Credits Required for Major". For general education modules, high chance you might be able to waive off "World Civilizations" & "American Pluralism". The rest really depends on the modules you took in your poly course. Lastly, most poly students should be able to waive all of the free electives requirement. Again, it depends on how many modules you took in Poly. With that, you can calculate based on the cost given per credit. :)

Hi,
thanks for the reply with regards to the waiver credits. :) Really appreciate it, however in come from a course which is under engineering sector and furthermore, more related under audio/video kinda stuff.I have a gut feeling that maybe credits wise, I'm able to waiver off a few but not many as it is non-related. :( There's 52 free electives for sociology, I dunno how that counts. Anyway, UB courses are not cheap though. If i can confirm an amount of roughly 40k, I wouldn't mind :)

I've heard from my friend that someone from a engineering course in poly managed to transfer around 60 credits to cover all the free electives. Remember for free electives you don't need it to be related to get it "waived". BTW, usually poly students can transfer alot more credits over because they take more modules. Hope this helps!

Poly dip can easily transfer 60 worth of credits issue these credits may not count towards the credits you needed for graduation!

To graduate you really need to complete certain class which count towards your degree. these credits will make you a sophomore or even junior, but you may be still taking freshman classes. Free electives doesn't mean you are free to take anything you want at times it's the case. If it's anything then use it to be done, if u want to learn one can take up electives to support your degree or pick up a minor or major. But here since DL may not be that easy

Econ bach has 30+ req credits

One need to complete these New York State req gen edu requirements

sim ub

is sim ub suitable for those who were ostracised/introverts?
there are some projects which need peer interviewing/interviewing friends. for those social anxiety people, they may be stuck on the project if they don't interview people right?
i'm not sure if i should enrol in this course.

hi there!! i've applied to UB (double major in communication studies and international trade). was just wondering what the culture in these majors is like? also i looked at the thread and saw that UB doesn't give breaks for an internship, but do people intern and is it possible to take a long break for an internship?

hmmm for introverts, it may be uncomfortable. If you are willing to change that, this would be a good place to start. Project wise, it's true that your group mates will have the chance to grade you. BUT its usually based on your performance and not because you were too quiet or what. I'm not sure what u mean by peer interviewing, but sometimes you get a group based on the prof's random selection. Again, if you want to change yourself, you can consider this course.

I can't give u insights on the culture because I was from biz admin, but I think comms seem to be much more happening because of their professors. Yup you don't get long breaks to do internships so it is up to your own discretion to take a semester off for internship. IMO it will pay off even if you might graduate later than your peers.

Hi,

May I know, for the first semester, our timetables are fully fixed so we no need to sign up for any modules/gen ed classes etc right?

when will our results be released?

varies from teacher to teacher.

for tests and quizzes, they can upload on that day itself to even 2 weeks later.

For Finals, the teacher can upload the Finals Grade on UB learn and you can calculate yourself. For the letter grading in UBHub, the usually have an earliest date where professor can upload the results which is usually 2weeks(?)

Help :(

Hi all!

I've recently graduated from SIM's DMS and was offered a contract to UB's Communications. However, the contract that was offered to me stated that the degree would last for 3 years and its total fee was $69k without waivers or exemptions.

Is this normal? I clearly remember during a talk from UB that students from DMS were offered credit exemptions, thus the total fee shouldn't be that expensive either.
