While general internet access is fine, I'm having issue with my IPTV app. When connected to 5G wifi, I'm frequently getting checking route error and SSL handshake timeout.. On 2.4G, sometime it's better, but during peak hour of 7pm-9pm, it's almost impossible to login to the app.

I don't have this issue on MR which I was using for the past 10 years, iirc.

Anyone has any advice that I still troubleshoot?
New wifi router from simba? perhaps can try connecting the old one to see if issue persists.

Just checking around the 12 months contract for flexibility, if I want to use my own routers for the time being till next year, will simba be a good option? Can’t find much info on the offered ONU…. It is supposed to work better as compared to WC ONR?

You can use your own routers (and other networking equipment) with any Internet Service Provider.

SIMBA uses CGNAT for IPv4 and provides a public dynamic /61 IPv6 address block. WhizComms does not currently support IPv6 at all, but they provide a public dynamic IPv4 address (as far as the ONR). Also, WhizComms is very similar to Singtel's fibre broadband service since they wholesale infrastructure and peering from Singtel.

You might be able to bridge the ONR WhizComms supplies, but that's not guaranteed. Check other posts for reports.

SIMBA offers 1 year and 2 year contracts but actually bills in 30 day increments. WhizComms bills on a true monthly basis. That means you effectively get an extra "bonus" 5 days (or 6 days in leap years) per year with WhizComms (since the average length of one month is a little more than 30 days), so at equal "headline" prices WhizComms actually costs a bit less than SIMBA. WhizComms charges an installation fee for their 12 month plan (and some 24 month plans). SIMBA includes a fixed telephone line; WhizComms charges extra for a fixed telephone line. WhizComms offers a 2.5 Gb/s plan (1 Gb/s per LAN port) that's likely to be particularly affordable at renewal (as low as $24 per month if they maintain current pricing offers), but there are upfront fees.

Just wondering if any SIMBA users are using the new XGS-PON ONU (actually an ONR, with one 10Gbe LAN port and quad gigabit LAN ports). Thanks.

Yes. I recently switch from Starhub HomeHub+ to SIMBA 10G & am using this ONU. Msg SIMBA to confirm it is an ONT before switching. So far no issue and am enjoying the price & speed! =P

Would you please post the model of the ONU?

In your case, it is configured as an ONT (only one 10G LAN port is working) or ONR (both the 10G LAN port and 1G LAN ports are working)?

Huawei OptiXstar HN8250Ts-20 configured as an ONT.

I believe this is not the new ONU, this is the existing ONT model with one 10G LAN port only, no 1G LAN ports.

Edit to add:

My mistake. This one has one 10G LAN port and four LAN ports. Same as the one used by M1.

Apparently this can be configured either as an ONT or an ONR.

Anyone know if I can use the singtel issue tplink hb611 sgst and use for my simba fiber?

Just wondering why you want to use HB611-SGST (dual 2.5G ports, dual 1G ports, triband BE11000)? Do you own one now?

If not, then no point to buy one. Starhub issued HB710 (10Gbps capable with dual 10G ports, triband BE18000) is better and proabbly they are at similar price. HB710 BNIB unit is at S$192 or lower.

If you already own one, then you can try it. By right it should work, even though it is a Singtel customized model. You will have to download firmware updates from Singtel website.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/su...est-firmware/singtel-wifi-7-router-hb611-sgst

BTW, new sign-up with SIMBA will get a free D-Link DPN-BE7212GR with dual 10G ports, quad 1G ports. It has dual band WiFi 7 BE7200.

My friend pass me 1 unit to try but I did not manage to link it using the tplink aginet app despite following the instructions. So not sure if it's the router faulty or it can't work with simba.
Will try to update the firmware and see how is it.
Thank you.

Use Web UI instead and see if that helps.

It is a customized by Singtel. Theoretically it is possible that Singtel can customize the firmware and limit it to Singtel usage but I tend to think it is unlikely that they will do it this way.

HB611-SGST is with Singtel Logo and not TP-Link Logo.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/hb611-sgst/

The other Singtel issued model HB810 is reported to work with other ISPs. Same for Starhub issued EB810v/HB710/HB410 -- they work with other ISPs as well.

HB810 and HB611-SGST are for Singtel 3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps which use XGS-PON ONR and not for Singtel's legacy ONT based plans. So they do not need to have the built-in VLAN profile.

The situation is different for older Singtel customized router from Acadyan/Askey/Airties. They will have built-in Singtel VLAN profile (since they need to work with legacy Singtel ONT along wiith Singtel ONR) which cannot be disabled Therefore they cannot work with other ISPs ONT as the main router. They can still work as an AP after the main router.

I am a SIMBA broadband user and for those who are considering it, please know that it is using CGNAT and shared IP addresses with its own set of problems. You will encounter more CAPTCHA screens and possibly failed transactions and authentication requiring location specific information.

1. More about SIMBA as an ISP.

Main issues now for SIMBA, at least from the reports, are the following
1) Lack of support --> this can be a critical issue especially for average users who are not tech savvy
2) CGNAT without Static IPv4 add-on. SIMBA 10Gbps has native IPv6 which may help but it may still be an issue for those want to have a public IPv4 address. You can refer to the earlier discussion about CGNAT in this post.
3) There are some routing issues reported as well.

#2 (lack of support) is the main reason that I can not recommend SIMBA to average users as of now.

Power users know their use cases well -- so it is usually not an issue to go with their choice of ISPs. But I would not recommend power users to go for SIMBA either because of #2 (CGNAT without static IPv4 add-on).

2. Issue with CGNAT (MR, VQ and SIMBA) and workarounds

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/myrepublic-fibre-part-5.4981088/page-340#post-149246011
Majority of users will be okay with CGNAT but some users get affected (eg: cannot do port forwarding or hosting services).

VQ/MR provide static IPv4 add-on for those who hit the limit of CGNAT.

Unfortunately SIMBA does not have that add-on. It provides public IPv6 for 10Gbps plan users as a potential work-around but not able to sort out all issues.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT
  • Carrier-grade NAT usually prevents the ISP customers from using port forwarding, because the network address translation (NAT) is usually implemented by mapping ports of the NAT devices in the network to other ports in the external interface. This is done so the router will be able to map the responses to the correct device; in carrier-grade NAT networks, even though the router at the consumer end might be configured for port forwarding, the "master router" of the ISP, which runs the CGN, will block this port forwarding because the actual port would not be the port configured by the consumer.[7] In order to overcome the former disadvantage, the Port Control Protocol (PCP) has been standardized in the RFC 6887.
  • In cases of banning traffic based on IP addresses, a system might block the traffic of a spamming user by banning the user's IP address. If that user happens to be behind carrier-grade NAT, other users sharing the same public address with the spammer will be inadvertently blocked.[7] This can create problems for forum and wiki administrators attempting to address disruptive actions of a single malicious user sharing an IP address with legitimate users.

I'm a SIMBA Broadband user too. Currently not under contract and planning to stay until the ONT dies.

Prior to SIMBA, I was a Singtel user since the Dial-up era. I don't feel any diff between Singtel and SIMBA.

Hi,

I am seeking your kind help and advice. I just changed from M1 (1Gbps) to Simba (10Gbps), and set up the Dlink mesh using 2 units of D-Link BE7200. However, my internet wifi seems worse than before when i was on 1 Gbps with ASUS mesh using 2 units of ASUS RT-AX3000P (Dlink routers and ASUS routers were placed in the exact same locations).

I only used WIFI and not wired connections. My internet keeps disconnecting itself. For example, when i am working on my Lenovo laptop, the wifi network can show connected but says no internet. I need to restart laptop (at times), or explicitly disconnect the wifi and reconnect again. During this "no internet" period, i can at times still connect to the internet via wifi (my mobile data is off) on my phone, so i am not sure where the problem lies - whether it was due to the router, simba, or simply some incompatibility between my laptop and router etc.. This can happen throughout the day (at times, 4-5 times per hour) and night (less frequent but still happens) which is very frustrating when i work from home.

I also encounter similar issues (but less frequent) when I am accessing internet on my mobile (mobile data was turned off) though. The internet connection will just drop, and reconnect after a while (5-10 min later).

Should i change my WIFI7 routers to other brands (e.g. ASUS? my connection speed was slow previously, but stability was ok), or change back to my previous WIFI6 routers (I still have them though)? I mainly use internet for WFH (teams call), internet surfing, netflix etc..

Is it some settings that i should be changing for DLink? I am not familiar with network settings and would
appreciate if anyone can offer me some guidance on this. 🙏

Thank you in advance!

Qn:
Noticed that at the earlier stage of SIMBA broadband launch they do not provide home phone line service.
Existing customer can request for the ONT change and register for the home phone line service?
