really want to get the 2.5g plan from simba. i waited so long but still not in my service area. then they offer me to trial this 10g plan.

looks like a very heavy investment for a 10g router.
maybe i go check out the prices of 2.5g router.

ah, so when you say locked...does it mean we cannot get firmware update if purchase it for other ISPs?

cos i remember getting AX72 from Carousell and it was from someone who got it through M1. I can get new fw for those normally though.

That is because TP-Link EB810v and HB810 are service provider models. So the firmware update is not from TP-Link directly but rather from the respective ISPs.

M1 does not user service provider models. TP-Link Archer AX72 is a general consumer model. Same for MR issued Archer BE805.

General consumer model will have Archer or Deco before the name. Service providers do not use Archer or Deco, their models seem to start with E or H.

I do not recommend to get the service provider models in generl. On the other hand, you do not have much choices for 5Gbps/10Gbps plans if you want to have a cheap 10G capable router from the ISP.

https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/
EB810v (Starhub), Triband BE22000, not recommended to get this if not using Starhub 5Gbps/10Gbps plans
HB810 (Singtel), Triband BE22000, not recommended to get this if not using Singtel 5Gbps/10Gbps plans
EX1110 (??) -- AXE11000 triband, does not seem to be available from any local ISPs.
EX510 (MyRepublic) -- AX3000, no point to get this model
HX510 (??) -- AX3000, does not seem to be available from any local ISPs, anyway, no point to get this model.
EX221-G2U (MyRepublic) -- AX1800, no point to get this model
EX220 (MyRepublic) -- AX1800, no point to get this model

Why is the govt pushing 10gbps into homes?

For the future. But it is sill in the early stage.

Reference:
SINGAPORE - All major internet service providers (ISPs) in Singapore have accelerated plans to upgrade their networks to offer 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) fixed broadband services to at least half a million homes by 2028.
https://www.straitstimes.com/tech/p...lion-homes-ready-for-10gbps-broadband-by-2028
...
M1 said that it is participating in the Government’s grant programme and that it is on track to launch its 10Gbps plan.

What happen if I am invited for the 10Gbps pilot trial but I still use back the 1Gbps router? Will Simba scold me that I cant do testing for them cos I not using 10Gbps router?

Anyway, $300 for 360 days = $25 for 12 mths, much cheaper than m1 cheapest plan of 500mbps
:s22:won't scold you laa, but Simba will only tell you that you can get max speed of up to 1Gbps instead of up to 10Gbps...

take note that you need to upgrade both your Router and end-devices
for e.g. Wi-Fi-7 capable devices, 10Gbps network card, etc...

No one using Simba 10G now?
Does it has Dynamic IPv4 public address (non-CGNAT) ??

Because the technology is cheap enough, 2.5G/5G ethernet is gradually becoming main stream, it makes sense to slowly upgrade the infrastructure towards that direction.

What's the use for the bandwidth? Honestly I do not have a good answer. It's the same as how people didn't think 1Gbps was required, but turns out if you didn't do that due to the GPON shared bandwidth, each household may have less than 100Mbps with the current split ratio, and video streaming / endless scrolling may not be seamless.

I tend to think it will be using CGNAT (no public IPv4 address) [99% sure].

But I hope they will provide static IPv4 add-on soon.

VQ/MR are also using CGNAT, but they provide static IPv4 add-on for those who need a public IPv4 address.

maybe i go check out the prices of 2.5g router.

1. Good 2.5G router with at least dual 2.5G ports can be at pretty reasonable decent price. Examples:
1) Local version, sub S$400
Asus TUF-AX6000
Asus GT-AX6000 (about S$360 BNIB from Carousell, or maybe a bit lower)
TP-Link Archer BE805 (10G capable, true WiFi 7), (about S$400 BNIB from Carousell)

2) No local warranty: sub S$200
Asus TX-AX6000 (China version of TUF-AX6000).
GL.iNet MT-6000
Asus TUF-6500 (China WiFi 7 router, quad 2.5G ports)
Quite some other choices with China WiFi 7 routers (no 6GHz band).
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...out-6ghz-band-support.6905228/#post-147664804

2. For 10Gbps, then you have limited choice.
Cheap options below S$500.
TP-Link Archer BE805 (10G capable, true WiFi 7), (about S$400 BNIB from Carousell)
Asus RT-BE88U, China WiFi 7, dual band BE7200, one 10Gbase-T and one SFP+ port, quad 2.5G ports, quad 1G ports
Xiaomi BE10000, China WiFi 7, triband BE10000, one 10Gbase-T and one SFP+ port, quad 2.5G ports

Hi all

I signed up for the Simba 10Gbps trial recently and I am awaiting NLT/ONT appointment scheduled for next week.

As I am living alone, I would prefer to take 2 x 0.5 days of annual day (vs 2 x 1 whole day of annual leave) for the NLT/ONT.

So far, there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the NLT date.

I received a cryptic email from Simba "We regret to inform you that your NLT setup appointment for SIMBA 10Gbps Broadband has to be rescheduled! The revised date for your NLT Installation is now tentatively scheduled follows". The "Tentative Appointment" date shown is my first choice appointment date.

Q1) Has anyone received such an email before? When will Simba confirm the NLT date?

Q2) Will you be informed if you need to be present for the NLT appointment? (Since I read from posts that the work may be done outside my premise and there is no need to access my house).

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I am not very familiar with networking..
If I took simba cgnat 10Gbps fibre, and use the standard tplink router for normal gaming/surfing, and place another glinet mini router (running wireguard) behind the main router (yes, dual NAT) , the second router mainly for public-serving servers. will this work?

Aha...
I thought I am the only one receiving that message.
My NLT installation is also now tentatively scheduled.. I guess I have to be at home for the whole day on that date. It's crazy right?

Is torrenting under CGNAT really bad?
I am a heavy user of uTorrent and Thunder (xunlei).

I am thinking of getting Starhub Ultraspeed 10Gbps instead of Simba 10Gbps, due to SH having non-cgnat public IP, or likely to have real ipv6 support.

Torrenting is faster when you can port forward.

without port forwarding, you're limiting yourself to a subset of the full peer/seed pool that already have their port opened.

Hi guys. I just need some advice. Lately having my in-law living with me, higher utilisation now. Was exploring to upgrade my bandwidth from my current M1 1gbps plan.

Found a couple of plans available plans offering 3,5,10gpbs.
Will my current router Asus XT8 be a bottle neck? I got this less than 2 years. Was happy with the performance, however its only WIFI6 ready.

Hope to hear from feedback to make a informed decision :)

you need to quantify this

Unless you're torrenting/downloading huge files using download manager almost all the time, I can confidently tell you your connection is not the issue.
Thanks for the response.
Yeah not torrenting. But hosting a NAT server. which I am the only one accessing most of the time.

With this statement. It seems anything beyond 1gbps is overkill..
