Hi there,

any recommendation of router? Schedule to install next year beginning of next year. sourcing for Mesh/ router.
New to networking.. understand that we need a 2.5gb WAN/LAN port in order to utilise the full speed of 2.5gb via direct connection.

did a search on internet most only came with 1 port. Any different if i only use 1 Port of 2.5gb?

The ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET 12 WiFi 6e mesh router has 1xWAN and 1x LAN both 2.5GbE ports

Than add a 5-port TP-Link TL-SG105-M2 or the 8-port TP-Link TL-SG108-M2 2.5GbE unmanaged switch and you'll have more 2.5GbE ports

And in this case Whizcomms will use a GPON ONR which can not be bridged, just like SingTel 2Gbps plan.
But if for a normal consumer looking at this price and using Asus mesh network, shld be ok?

Cheena set locked you at ROM or location level? Your K60 Pro uses a high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which is Wifi 7 ready. I read in some thread that some phones with China ROM when used in SG, it open up a few more 4G/5G bands that were not available originally. So if the location permits 6 GHz bands, they might open it up.

I know, its locked at ROM level. Even third party ROM cannot open up 6G.
I do have the full 5G bands available however. My 5G actually works better than my friend's pixel 7 pro

If one is willing to venture on taobao, 2.5GbE (with even 1 10G SFP+) switches are faaaar cheaper than TP Link SG105

The one I have is Xike (Or Seeker) SKS1200-5GPY1XF. Bought it on recommendation as it supports the most SFP+ modules and AOCs

There are quite some routers with dual or more 2.5G ports.

For example, you can look at Asus TUF-AX6000 or GT-AX6000.

It is my personal opinion that Singtel 2Gbps plan and Whizcomms 2.5G plan, (aggregated 2Gbps or 2.5Gbps plan, using a limited feature ONR), are worse than an 1Gbps plan (or even 500Mbps plan) with ONT (where you can use your own router to the full). So IMHO SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan is better than Whizcomms 2.5Gbps plan in this aspect.

But I understand that many people may only care about wireless performance and not the features of the main router, and the Singtel and Whizcomms ONR may be okay for their use cases.

In the case of SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan, the first thing is to get a router with dual or more 2.5Gbps ports. Then you can consider adding an optional 2.5G switch to have more wired 2.5G connection.

If using a router with single 2.5G port, that port will connect to the SIMBA ONT as the WAN port, then you do not have another 2.5G port (LAN port) for 2.5G wired connection. Adding an unmanaged 2.5G switch will not help in this case.

Does this 2.5Gbps fibre home plan $21.80 with 9% GST come with any add-on option like home digital phone line?

Hope more ISP jump into 2.5Gbps plan instead of their lame advertised 2Gbps plan which is just 1+1Gbps plan. We no need that ultra high speed of 10Gbps. 😅

For OOkla SpeedTest results, the download speed is kind of below expectation (>2Gbps) for a true 2.5Gbps plan, as people are getting 1.8Gbps with Dual 1Gbps plans like Singtel 1+1 or MR 2Gbps plan. Upload speed is meeting expectation (>1Gbps).

Probably SIMBA needs to tune the backends. On the other hand, I think we can not complain either with the low S$20 per month cost.

As for the waveform.com buffer bloat testing result, the download and upload speed are limited by the test sever so the result of A may not mean much. That is the problem of the test server though and not SIMBA.

Yup, someone from NLT will come over to test signal.
In my case, no one turn up during the appointment time slot.
Simba had called 1 day earlier to install the network access point.

Can I just take it that the NLT activation is ok?

No harm trying if it is on. Turn on the ONT and see what happens.
