The EB810v cannot be used for SImba in this case?

Can, but not recommended, because firmware upates are locked to Starhub as EB810v is a service provide model.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/eb810v/

It still has a lot of firmware bugs --> so not recommended if you can not upgrade the FW. FW bugs and feature enhancement are also in general slow for the service provider model.

TP-Link Archer BE805 is better in this aspect since it is a consumer model. It lacks the 2.5G LAN ports of the EB810v, but at least it does have two 10G ports. Similar pricing from Carousell (dumped by MR users).

Heya, just been reading through this long post and it does answers some queries that I may have about SIMBA Fibre but I do have a few questions.

So I have MyRepublic's 1Gbps Fibre currently in my home with their stupid (1Gb/s dwn / 0.5Gb/s up) limitation and I am looking for an alternative provider as I am planning to incorporate a NAS Solution for my family and possibly hosting other stuff. SIMBA does provide service of 2.5Gbps (unfortunately not 10Gbps) to my residence.

As far as I'm concerned, SIMBA seems to be one of the few ISPs that doesn't use some BS'ery ONT and actually provides up to 10Gbps from their ONT, compared to Singtel's or MyRepublic where your connection is aggregated down to useless Gigabit ports instead when you pay for a 2.5 / 3 / 10 Gig plan.

For SIMBA Fibre users, do you actually get the full 2.5Gbps or 10Gbps link reflected in your speedtest or does it fluctuate depending on how many users are sharing the CGNAT network?

and also, given it's a shared network, I am most likely having my NAS set up with a VPN on my desktop / laptop routed to it whenever I am out of my home.

MyRepublic 1Gbps has become symmetrical quite some time ago.

MyRepublic uses ONT for its plans. You can get 3Gbps from the ONT for its 3Gbps plan or about 8Gbps from its 10Gbps plan, which use XGS-PON ONT with 10G LAN ONT (okay there may be congestion issues now with MR and SH).

SIMBA was special with its GPON based 2.5Gbps plan last time as the GPON ONT has single 2.5G LAN port. Now M1 2.5Gbps plan does the same that the GPON ONT has single 2.5G LAN port. The other GPON based plans (500Mbps, 1Gbps, 2Gbps, 2.5Gbps plans) have not caught up since the ONT/ONR still have only 1G LAN ports.

SIMBA 10Gbps is not special when it comes to XGS-PON based plans (3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plans) as all the other providers also provide the ONT /ONR with one 10Gbps LAN port (ONR will have a few more 1GbLAN ports). BTW, all XGS-PON based 10G plans will have at most 8.2x Gbps due to the overhead of XGS-PON technology used.

But you can still say SIMBA 10Gbps plan is special as it is the cheapest at S$29.99 per month.

Are you using static IPv4 Add-on with your MR 1Gbps plan?

SIMBA is not a good choice if you need to host services at home, since it uses CGNAT without providing static IPv4 add-on. So no way for you to get a public IPv4 address as of now. MR and VQ also use CGNAT but they provide paid Static IPv4 address add-on for the users who need a public IPv4 addresses.

So I am now also on the SIMBA 10G plan and I just tested using Speedtest with my Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Asus TUF-AX3000 as my router and I only get about 500+ mbps which is what I have been getting with my former VQ 500mbps plan.

I imagine this is not normal correct? I shouldn't be getting this slow speed even though my router is 1Gbps type. Shouldn't I be getting 800-900+ mbps?

Couldn't test via direct ethernet connection yet as my LG Gram laptop does not have an ethernet port. OMG.
Will be getting a USB C - ethernet adapter to test but it will take a few days to arrive.

Disable any QoS or AiProtection first and use Asus router's own speed-test: Adaptive-QoS -> Internet-Speed.
Try to use different speed test server, I found CTCSCI SG and First Media SG quite consistently goes above 700Mbps.
You're right the speed should be 800-900+Mbps which is limited by the AX3000 itself.

Looks a bit low for WiFi 6 2x2 stream 80MHz, but still not that far off.

I get 600+Mbps for the same router WiFi setup with GT-AX6000 and S23.

At areas with minimal interference should be able to get around 800Mbps.

Public IPv6 based on the reports.

What kind of service you want to host?

Take note your service is only accessible through IPv6 network now, which means others on MR/VQ/WC Fibre Internet and and most of the people on SingTel Fibre will not be able to access your service. I believe many people on mobile data network (eg: SingTel 4G, Starhub, etc) will not be able to access your service either.

If you just need to have remote access back to home, it is easier to use Tailscale or Zerotier.

I think a lot of people say Simba is CGNAT and hosting servers can be a problem ..

yes, that's why I'm trying for ipv6 route

I want to host nextcloud (share photo & video footage to my clients), and photoprism with photosync. let say I want to replace my Google drive and apple cloud.
wait, what you saying photoprism with photosync won't work if my mobile carrier is singtel? wow, that's a big thing for me.
you'll get globally routable IPv6 addresses.

how big of a prefix they'll delegate via DHCPv6-PD remains to be seen.
👍

Singtel 5G SA: IPv6 seems to work.
Singtel 5G NSA: IPv6 seems to be hit and miss.
Singtel 4G: No IPv6

Thanks for this data point, seems like Singtel only has IPv6 working for SA due to the specs requirement. Everything points to them doing the bare minimum 😢
bobao you'll retain the IPv6 address after the lease expires wor because you might have moved to a 5G NSA/4G tower when the lease expires.

Need to toggle aeroplane mode then you'll get it back, assuming you connected to a 5G SA tower.

I think your limiting factor now is your router being handicapped by the WAN Gigabit.
Until you switch it out to a 2.5Gb or 10Gb capable router, it will stay at around Gigabit (when you are using the ethernet cable hooked up to your laptop.
Make sure your router & the expensive adapter is 10Gb capable if you're looking to shred that speed with the allocated bandwidth.

WiFi test on the other hand, I recommend getting a router that is WiFi 7 and with a minimum 2.5Gbps WAN port capable if you want to utilize the bandwidth you got. The TP-Link Archer's BE series seems to tick those boxes with its I/O.

I can't find any other USB-C 10Gbps Adapter other than the OWC Thunderbolt 10G Ethernet Adapter, so hopefully that adapter you got is actually Gigabit at minimum.

Hey! Thanks for replying!
I have not thrown the static IPv4 yet onto our plan (it's my parents lol) as my NAS plan is still WIP and I'm commissioning it only next month.

So summarizing, I cannot get a static IP from SIMBA yet (because CGNAT and no IPv4 availability) which means I am not going to be able to remotely access my server from the rolling IP address and combining with Tailscale VPN etc.

I definitely am a fan for the cheap-ness for that bandwidth, but I'll hold out until they allow static IPv4- then I'll probably get this plan for myself to enjoy. 🤣🤣

Sadly MyRepublic also released this 3Gbps plan just 2 months after my family signed the re-contract and we cannot upgrade to enjoy this new speed for literally +$1.00, and pleading with the clueless foreign web support agent didn't get me / anyone else (from reddit threads) anywhere which absolutely sucks.

Looks like I'm gonna stick with ye' ol' 1 Gigabit for another 22 more months, or observe and YOLO my chances with SIMBA. 🤣

p.s. SIMBA currently only services 2.5Gbps to my area. 10Gbps only in certain areas.
