eh... why not cat7 but cat6?
Cat 7 cables offer better performance, shielding, and future-proofing at a higher cost, but for most everyday home or small office use, Cat 6 is generally sufficient.

Cat 7 for 100 metre and Cat 6 for 55 metre is enough.

Both also can

No point to use CAT 7 (or CAT 8) which requires shielding which typical contractors can not do properly at the home setup. In fact, it may even give you worse results without proper shielding compared to CAT 6.

Unshielded CAT 6 (or CAT6A if you want) is good enough for home setup and no issues with 10Gbps (up to 55m for CAT6).

If you plan to be even more future proof post 10Gbps, then Fibre is the way to go for home environment.

Shielded CAT6A or CAT7/8 may be more useful in commercial setup.

probably because 6 is a good number.
cat 6 and wifi 6 are good enough

There is a difference here.

CAT 6 is good for 10Gbps for home environment.

WiFi 6 is good enough for most cases now. However, if you want to have Wireless device breaking the 2Gbps speed barrier, then you have to use WiFi 7 router/clients on the 6GHz band with 320MHz channel bandwidth (2Gbps to 4Gbps).

Any idea if there is an option to get a 10G ONT with SFP+ LAN port ?
10G LAN port will require either RJ45 transceiver or switch with RJ45 10G ports, which are more costly and hotter, which is not a great idea given the confine space in tiny closet that the fiber termination point in new HDB flats.

Only VQ provides the XGS-PON ONU Stick option at S$99 top-up.

As for 10G LAN port on the XGS-PON ONT -- it is not too bad if just use an SFP+ Copper module on your 10G pure SFP+ switch, Or if you have a 10G switch with mixed 10GBaseT port and SFP+ port. Then your other 10G devices can use SFP+ interface.

SFP+ copper module is not too expensive -- you can get them from 10Gtek with reasonable price, or other brands. They are hot indeed but you can use a USB fan if you want.

I do not have too many 10G devices but I am buying the following from Hasivo.
1) 8-port pure SFP+ ports, RMB 499
2) 2.5G switch with one SFP+ uplink and one 10Gbase-T RJ45 uplink, RMB 399.
I have three more 2.5G switches with dual SFP+ uplink.

Planned connection scheme in the future (not done yet).
1) with Singtel unbridged ONR in the Living Room
Singtel ONR 10G LAN port (unbridged) --> 10G RJ45 LAN port of Hasivo 2.5G switch
SFP+ port of Hasivo 2.5G switch --> DAC cable --> Hasivo 8 ports SFP+ switch
Living room Hasivo 2.5G switch 2.5G LAN ports --> 2.5G wired device in the Living Room

Hasivo 8-port SFP+ switch with SFP+ Optic module --> Fibre cable to the bedrooms --> bedroom Hasivo 2.5G swtich SFP+ port with SFP+ Optic module x 3
Bedroom Hasivo 2.5G switch 2.5G LAN ports --> 2.5G wired device in the bedrooms
Bedroom Hasivo 2.5G switch SFP+ port with copper module (hot) --> one 10 G wired device in the bedroom

2) with Singtel bridged ONR (If I can get it bridged) in the living room
Singtel ONR 10G LAN port (bridged) --> Miniroute R1 Intel N100 soft router SFP+ ports with 10G SFP+ copper module (hot, using USB fan to cool it down)
Miniroute R1 SFP+ LAN port --> DAC cable --> Hasivo 8 ports SFP+ switch

Hasivo 8-port SFP+ switch SFP Ports with SFP+ Optic module (x 3) --> Fibre cables to the bedrooms --> Hasivo 2.5G swtich SFP+ port with SFP+ Optic module for each bedroom (x3)
Bedroom Hasivo 2.5G switch 2.5G LAN ports --> 2.5G wired device in the bedrooms
Bedroom Hasivo 2.5G switch SFP+ port with copper module (hot) --> one 10 G wired device in the bedroom

Just take note you may need a copper SFP+ 10G module (pretty hot) for the SFP+ LAN port.
How much the cost for the SFP+ 10G module? Probably need it to connect to RJ45 port in the living room that runs to my main switch in my study.

The switch also need to change if i need to run 10G backhaul.

Btw anyone know the turnaround time for Simba and NLT to get the port up?

10Gtek official Taobao shop: RMB 178 plus GST plus shipping. You need to specify the switch to use to guarantee compatibility.

There are of course cheaper ones but 10Gtek seems to be the more recognized brand.

I use another brand from Ganwen 感闻 with my Ganwen/Hasivo 2.5G switches and Miniroute R1 N100 mini PC and it seems to work as well (bought 4). But Ganwen SFP+ copper module is at RMB 189 (so more expensive) and some people in this forum suggest not to buy from Ganwen.

Any recommended 10G switch for best compatibility?

Not an expert here.

It also depends on your budget of the 10G SFP+ switch.
Unmanged and more recognized brand yet low cost --> TP-Link China TL-ST1008F
https://www.servethehome.com/cheapest-10gbe-8-port-switch-tp-link-tl-st1008f-review/

Managed and more recognized brand yet low cost --> TP-Link China TL-ST5008F

I bought TP-Link China TL-SH1008 8-port unmanaged 2.5G switch a few years ago and it is okay (a bit hot, probably due to old chipset).

You can see I am going with even cheaper brands like Hasivo and Ganwen for 10G stuff. Hasivo and Xikestor seem to be two low cost brands which have better recognitions.

More expensive and better brands --> MikroTik, Ubiquiti, etc.

But I guess you may want to consult brother @TanKianW or other experts.

Thanks for highlighting! I went to take a look at TP-Link China router and found the TP-Link BE13000. That's look interesting. It might also relief the trouble on getting a SFP+ module.

It is a decent router if you do not mind the so-so Firmware. It has dual 10G RJ45 ports and quad 2.5Gbe ports.

BTW, even though it is listed as BE13000 but in reality is more like BE10000 triband, just like Xiaomi BE10000.

icic. I just converted back to LAN connection, wifi 6 still not as good. I'd tot i don't need to pull LAN when i changed my pc location. Anyway my house is old, so got exposed cable trunking, just hide it in there. I bought the cat 7 flat type from taobao, 15m only 10+ .... challenger selling 35+ for 20m...

sounds too chim. I got 2 other short cat 7 (supposed shielded, cos super thick), but impossible to bend. so I just get those flat ones that can easily get through door gaps.

yea, saw the transparent fibre thingy singtel offers with huawei setup... maybe next time when all prices come down, will have a lot more choices. Now just use whatever fits the budget :)
