SIMBA Telecom discussion thread

Technically the few hundred gb local, roaming data and roll over are promotional bonuses. It is stated at bottom of the simba website.

The latest critical information summary still same quotas as few years ago. Seem like only unlimited sms upgrade is permanent.

Promotional bonuses are stated in the t&c. Valid until a date determined by simba without further notice to customers.

Clause 8.17 should have covered the bandwidth throttle under fair use policy.

Entitlements is what you should get when you paid for.
Privilege is a given free on top of your entitlements.

well that's MHO

To me the gap between Eight and Simba is already so narrow that this FUP thing is going to be the killer for most people. No point having 600GB roaming when you can only use 10% of that (2GBx30 days), Eight is more flexible, cheaper (if you give up 5G, or $0.80 extra for a better 5G) and now better

Even at 5mbps can download quite a lot in 24hours. (5*60*60*24)/8=54GB

Theoretical max would be 56gb a day.

Max data qouta you could have is 5600gb (800gb x 6m rollover + 800gb current month)

Max you could use is 1680gb (56gb x 30 days)

So there is about 3.9tb of qouta that you paid for that is simply unusable.

[twosix]

2GB per day ? Even when overseas I barely hit 2GB in a week, so 2GB is a decent amount.
Even when used for work with video conferencing I don't hit 2GB a day.

Before the roll over was 3gb/mth. I can survive 3gb for almost a week, considering I use around 500mb per day.

There will be nothing to rollover for such heavy usage customer. So your presumption is invalid.

The hypothetical is technically possible, as it's the theoretical extreme case. However it is unlikely.

One may choose to keep their plan on standby for a whole 6 months then choose to blast all of their entitlements in one trip.

This make particular sense for the $10 plan, however if you plan to be on Simba for 6 months, you will be better off with the $30 for 90 days plan.

Never expected so many ppl running datacenters through their sim cards.

Ppl go overseas to travel, to enjoy, many ppl here like go overseas stream movie on their phone

Haha, using 4tb during holiday on mobile data is outstandingly ridiculous, but I'm sure if there's a way there'll be one with a will. The main issue at hand is SIMBA sneakily imposing a FUP of 2gb full speed without any form notification to existing subscribers. To date there is still no offical information on this for new sign ups either. The reduced data speed of 5mbps also makes it impossible to use up the qouta that we have paid for.

Before one argues that no one needs 800gb (or 5.6TB) of roaming data, SIMBA should not provision such high qoutas if they find it excessive. Since SIMBA did, paying customers have every right to fully use up their entitlement to the last byte.

There are thousands of travel esims on shoppee advertising "unlimited data" but it would be clearly stated how many gb would be at full speed and what the speed would be after that. I don't see anyone up in arms about those, as you know exactly what you're getting.

Day 2 in Malaysia. Roaming speed is reset. I can use full 5G speed again. Probably 2Gb later may be capped. Will monitor.

Assuming we've rollover 6 x 3Gb after 6 months,

am i correct to understand that the throttling will start once we've exceeded 2Gb roaming daily and goes back to normal roaming speed the next day ?

Meaning there's still chance of using the rollover data at normal 4/5G speed if we do not exceed 2Gb daily?

I do not use much data so didn't experience the throttling .

If the throttling can be proven, why wouldn't someone just screenshot the speedtest and send it to IMDA to seek clarification?

[Krabs.]

4 gbps should be able to run youtube 1080p

Yes u r correct. I am getting full speed today again.

I've screenshot of full and throttled speeds. But so far I'm not bothered by it. Let those who is report.

The t&c stated the bandwidth throttle is consistent with imda requirements on reasonable traffic management.

Read through the previous pages and noted the reference to Clause 8.17 mentioning of bandwidth throttle under fair use policy.

" All SIMBA mobile plans are intended for general mobile data use and are not designed for continuous or sustained constant bit rate (CBR) traffic, including (but not limited to) uninterrupted video streaming, persistent telemetry, machine-to-machine connections, or any application that maintains an always-on, non-variable data flow."

I guess, SIMBA users may have to accept the fact that uninterrupted video streaming is not guaranteed when using SIMBA's main data. This may also include Video Conferencing, High-Res Lossless Streaming and the likes.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I think many of the vending machines with cctv, remote monitoring equipment use normal mobile data connection. Constantly steam data back to servers 24/7. Telco should force them to subscribe business plan.

Businesses should only be allowed to subscribe business plan, no doubt.

But because of that, the "poor SIMBA user" now cannot expect to listen to Tidal or streaming Youtube when traveling on bus/train from JB to KL.

Interesting that so many comments are focusing on the "high" data usage overseas and not that a Telco has silently implemented FUP and not informed end user.

Very interesting
