i would be very surprised to hear of people using ezlink who got overcharged the moment they board/alight the bus/mrt. if it is so prevalent, why so many comments about "why fixed what is not broken"? if ezlink is really inferior, I think the general population would not be making so much noise..
So you are saying the issue of overcharge is because of SimplyGo and not because of the system that impacts both ezlink and simplygo? But how do you even know? Being overcharged and not noticing it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
given that they say 2/3 users are already on simplygo, does it mean those comments come from the 1/3? I don't think it's conclusive that the "general population" is making so much noise. it looks more likely to be the 1/3 noises that get amplified.
And it's not so much about fixing what's not broken, but rather getting rid of things majority aren't using. it's like payphones... why did they get rid most if not all of it? is because fewer and fewer people are using.
It can be argued that are they getting rid of the existing system too early when 1/3 are still on it, yea maybe. but let's not conflate the two points.
all my simplygo overcharging is ALL due to system error (tapped correctly with the right device, got OK / tick, got beep sound, my google wallet shows the transaction, but yet in the simplygo app, it shows 'missing exit'). and subsequently I have to submit claims via the app after a few days. although it is just a few cents, it is annoying.
Let's assume you have used it correctly. in order to validate whether it is indeed Simplygo issue rather than system issue, was there another ezlink card that was used at the same time, in the exact same manner, and CHECKED to confirm it was ok and simplygo wasn't?
Could it be that there are a lot of instances of SimplyGo being noticed to have an issue precisely because it was so easy to check, hence a lot of people notice?
While for ezlink because unless someone go stare at the display screen, it wouldn't be as easy to check, hence less people notice?
Still a lot of question marks.
and what is troubling is the company would stand to gain (profit) unethically when commuters don't check the app to see if there is any overcharging and hence did not submit any claims. how much have they already profited over the past 3 over years since implementation - that's everyone's guess.
the same can be said of ezlink what. if people don't go check and ask for refund. the company also stand to gain right? it's not a situation unique to simplygo
