Is it ONT or ONR?

I'm not an expert but I've downloaded from singtel a PDF file called "AC Plus Quick Installation guide".

It shows 2 different setup for ONT & ONR.

ONT setup: Fibre Terminal PT -> ONT -> Wireless Router -> TV set top box.

ONT setup: set Asus router to Singtel-Others + Asus port 4 to Singtel TV set top box.

or

ONR setup: Fibre Terminal PT -> ONR (2) -> Wireless Router (AP)
..................: Fibre..................... -> ONR (1) -> TV set top box.

ONR setup: set Asus router as AP & there maybe more settings to do. I've reached there yet.

Hmm hope someone can help or assist me with this problem.

Recently, I brought asus rt-n56u to try to replace my singtel router but encounter some problem. For setting up, everything is okay but when I change the IPTV settings in the router setting, it appeared DHDCP error (hope I spelled the error name correctly.

I have tried both SingTel- Mio and SingTel- Others settings but both same results.

Hmm can anyone give me any advice on this problem?

Thank you very much in advance.

If you are okay with S$42.9 and you are okay with the service, go ahead.

If not happy, go to M1 500Mbps or 1Gbps.

Or Whizcomms as it is based on SingTel network.

Seems to be a good deal to go to Whizcomms. S$38 for 1Gbps for 12month contract and S$34 for 24 months contract. They also allow you to configure the ONR in ONT mode prior to the installation date.

Singtel keep offering 2Gbps for recontract.... Anyone using it? :s11:

No point to get 2Gbps. You will get an ONR and not do good Singtel Mesh.

It is better to stick to 1Gbps and try to negotiate the recontact offer. I myself use SingTel 1Gbps plan (upgraded from 500Mbps plan last year), ONT plus my own router (Linksys WRT1900AC, since 2014) and cheap Mesh (TP-Link Deco M4, two units for S$99 or S$119), no problems with Singtel TV and my WiFi is good enough.

There is an offer for people who switch to SingTel Fibre + TV, not sure about offer for recontract. You should probably call SingTel or go to SingTel shop.

Ref: https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/tv/packs

Switch to Singtel and Get 1 FREE year of Singtel TV and Fibre Broadband at $39.50/mth
(U.P. $49.90/mth). Take note you need 24month contract for SingTel TV.

If you need Mesh, it is better to get your own Mesh.

Or go to M1 which offers better Mesh at S$10 on top of the S$39.9 plan. Asus Lyra Trio or Linksys Velop, both better than SingTel's locked Mesh solution. The bundled router is also better than SingTel AC Plus.

Could I opt to get the ONT instead of the ONR if I’m a new subscriber? Currently with VQ having my own router and access points and would like to leave it that way. Understand from SingTel that they have phased out the ONTs and are now only issuing ONRs. Anyone able to advise how to go for the latter?

A few users have done that. I think they are all SingTel Fibre + SingTel TV users. Try to convince SingTel before signing up. Right now SingTel has promotion for people switching to SingTel Fibre + SingTel TV (12 month free SingTel TV out of 24month contract for certain TV packs).

If you do not need SingTel TV, then M1 may be a better choice for you.

You wouldn’t recommend MyRepublic?

Sorry you may want to ask in the MyRepublic thread.

I am using SingTel and Starhub myself and both are okay to me. But based on the feedbacks from the forum M1 is the best among the big three in terms of Fibre Internet.

On the mobile side, M1 seems to be the worst among big three because of coverage issues.

No idea of the other players and no intention to go to them. I am sticking to SingTel as my main service provider for Fibre, TV and mobile, since it works for me well. But take note I am using an ONT with my own router. Then I have Starhub Fibre for the rented out flat.

That being said, if you are currently using the ONR and probably Singtel issued AC Plus or AC Elite, and you are not facing issues. Then you can consider the 2Gbps plan with Mesh or 1+1Gbps plan, if the offer is attractive compared to recontract the existing 1Gbps plan.

The 2Gbps plan does have some advantages if you really need high bandwidth.

the main difference is that for non2gbps plan holders the international speed is given less priority during congestion, while 2gbps plan holders should achieve at least 1gbps at all times
