I terminated my contract with Starhub 1,5 years ago when their network was having issues for months. Paid penalties and moved to Singtel. I was happy and able to receive working 3G connection.
In the past 1 year, Singtel has annoying issue with their 3G service. Full signal bar but intermittent working data connection. You can browse a page for a few mins and can't load anything for the next few. Turned on and off celular doesn't help. What helps is restarting the phone.
I am on multi-SIM, so when this 'non-responsive period' happens, this happens across all my device on the same location. Blackberry APN exception as they always seems to work but slow.
When I followed-up with painfullly long conversation with different team, it seems this may be related to LTE upgrades across the island. I was asked to wait patiently for next 3-6 months. LTE works very well now as the speed is good and less crowded, of course, limiting factor will be the area of coverage and decreased battery life.
This boils down to possible a simple factor: Greed. Keep on selling smartphones but not expanding enough network capacity. Worse till they forced customer to have lower (1/4 to 1/3 data bundles) paying the same to reduce the problem which they fully aware. I was trying to think why they would lowered down the data allowance when 75% of users won't use more than 3-4 GB out of their 12GB. This is probably why.
CEOs and senior management lives on quarterly assessment. The most important is to get profitability up and the rest later. Fines for breakdown are cheaper than network upgrades (tens to hundreds thousand vs millions).
What even makes a few customers cross is Singtel has the least talk time, data bundle. They also charges S$ 50 for signing on CIS contract (uniquely Singtel) as signing on CIS is 'saving money'. Even the top-up charge is increased from S$ 300 to S$ 350.
I am going to serve my contract till end of 24 months and be free from this unfair lock-in. Paying for a service that sometimes works and not, isn't fair.
Wow. Wow. Well said! Well said. I think you've hit the nail on the head. Bravo!

Please don't get mad at me!
