is the 10gbs plan any good? if you change the link for the 5gbs plan from fibre-5g to fibre-10g

iZOzBCx.png

If you are willing to pay, just go ahead. Take note the HB611-SGST given can only support 2.5Gbps.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/hb611-sgst/#specifications

To me it is not worth to pay extra for 10Gbps as it is only slightly higher than 5Gbps, due to the fact that all ISPs are using XGS-PON technology and the speed will be limited to 8.2x Gbps.

Reference: Singtel typical speed.

Typical local and international download speeds

The following is based on more than 200 measured readings for each Fibre Broadband plan across peak and off-peak hours. It is validated from October to December 2024.

Peak hours are generally from 7pm - 1am, while off-peak hours are generally from 1am - 7pm.

Fibre Broadband PlanTypical Local Download Speed for Wired Connection*Typical Local Upload Speed for Wired Connection*Typical International Download Speed for Wired Connection*

*The typical download speed range is computed to reflect that, at least 90% of the time, a user should experience the lower bound speed or higher.
^Download speeds for 2Gbps Fibre Plan reflects an aggregated speed of 2 speedtest readings done simultaneously on 2 client devices.

Oh, another surprising piece of news. When I told ST I wanted to have bridge mode for my new 10G ONR, since my current ONR is also on bridge mode, the sales told me "Please be inform that Bridge Mode is now a chargeable VAS service at $10/mth (incl. GST)".

This means they are open to officially supporting bridge mode, but at an additional charge. This could also mean that in future they will start clamping down on users configuring bridge mode on their own?

That is an interesting news. Let's see how it goes down the road.

So they found an opportunity to make money. 🤣

Yes, a little unscrupulous of them if you ask me, to make money from something that doesn't cost them anything to do.

Anyway, I protested the extra charge, saying that I'm currently already using bridge mode on my existing ONR, and not paying anything for it. Plus I have many other services with them, been using them for so long, blah blah blah. They discussed internally and agreed to "waive" the bridge mode charge as "a gesture of goodwill". I told them to make sure this request for bridge mode is noted on the order so the technician knows, and they assured me it was done. My installation date is on 4 March. Let's see...

Nice. Thanks a lot for the updates!

You are the second person in this forum to get SingTel to officially bridge the XGS-PON ONR (without a fee). The other user was using 1+1 Gamer Plan previously (the only SingTel plan with officially bridged GPON ONR).

hi all, thanks to the link shared, managed to recontract the $29.90/mth plan and got a HB611. Am thinking of getting another to mesh as my coverage of my house is quite weak on the second floor. Just wondering if I should get a HB810 to go with it (by using it as the main router, and change my HB611 as a node) instead of another HB611 to go with it. Is it easy to mesh the HB810 with HB610? Otherwise, are there any other better options for meshing and at the same time, leverage on the HB611 that I have? Thanks!

I think HB810 is the best option from SingTel. It is also future proof for your next recontract cycle as it is 10G capable.

SingTel offers free installation of HB810 if you buy from them at S$16.80 per month * 24 months = S$403.20.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/eform/wifi7

The setup of mesh with HB810 plus HB611-SGST should be pretty straight-forward from the web UI. You need to factory reset the HB611-SGST first. Maybe SingTel guy can install the mesh as well. YMMV.

Or you can just set up the HB810 first, factory reset the HB611-SGST, then connect HB611-SGST LAN port (not WAN port) to the LAN port of the HB810 with a Ethernet Cable, wait for a new minutes and then the mesh setup should finish. I believe this method should work -- I have tried this method with TP-Link Archer BE805 (bought from an M1 user at S$300 recently) and Starhub issued HB710 (S$192 from Starhub).

There are of course other options but they are not be supported by SingTel.

Thanks!! Will explore whether to get from Singtel or Carousell. Noted that Singtel pricing seems quite ok plus include installation.

so basically im up for re-contracting at the moment. seeking some advice. so basically, i didn't bridge or whatsoever. but im connecting my Asus AX Gaming Routeas an access point. if i re-contract to

5Gbps Enhanced Mesh for $58.70/mth

does the 2 singtel wifi 7 routers still work with my asus router? or is that not compatible at all? Currently im using singtel optical network router

You'd better to use two wireless SSIDs, one SSID for your Asus and the other SSID for the two HB611-SGST units.

Asus AImesh is not compatible with TP-Link EasyMesh.

In fact TP-Link EasyMesh is not compatible with TP-Link Deco Mesh.

Actually hor, $10 plus $29.90 (for 5Gbps) is $39.90.

About same as what I was paying for under 1Gbps ONT plan.

I'm tempted.

Think they found out we can bridge the Nokia and ZTE ONR provided by them.

Singtel don't really do anything if you complain about routing, I rmb a couple years back I was playing multiplayer games with my friends, all of us are connected to the same SG server but I'm getting 250+ ping while they're getting <10ms. That was at night so only live chat option available but the agent simply told me that their routing is based on load, if direct connection is too heavy then it might load balance to another route that's further, then he even suggested I get the gamer plan for optimal routing 😑

Singtel is very profit driven, they don't peer locally with other carriers if there's little to no benefits and games tend to run on global carriers other than singtel. What this means is that if singtel refuse to peer with other global carriers locally while these global carriers too refuse to buy connection to singtel, then the "only" route will be going to oversea POPs where they have peering with. Naturally, the latency skyrocket, in worst case, even through heavily congested route thus have packet losses. Generally, gaming should always avoid singtel.

If tech savvy, could just get a WAN optimized local VPS and run tailscale with it, potentially cheaper than getting gamer plan. Singapore hotspot for hosting business thus always time to time have some VPS promo running in hosting forums (not hardwarezone)

ahh...

this reminds me of playing Call Of Duty (COD) Multiplayer and latency was about 150ms when it's hosted in SG

that's why i left ST for SH:grin:

Yah back then I was playing Apex Legends and Chivalry 2. Funny thing is that for Chivalry 2, on the server browser it shows SG server with <10ms ping, but after connecting to it the ping jumps up to 250ms+
