Hello all

Below is my current SingTel with SingTel TV/Broadband

ONT --> SingTel Mesh Router

My questions are

1. Can replace SingTel Mesh Router to TP Link or other products ?

2. Or can I use Wifi-Extender such as TP Link or other products ?

Anyone have done before please share your suggestions ?

Thank you

Yes you can.

ONT -- TP-Link Archer router -- TP-Link WiFi Extender

Or:
ONT -- TP-Link Deco Mesh Router -- TP-Link Deco Mesh node

Hello xiaofan
Thank you for informations.

Do I need to set 'Access Point' in all my Deco ( Main and nodes ) ?

My setup will be:

ONT <--> SingTel Mesh Router <--> Main Deco (connect via Ethernet) <--> Nodes ( 2 pair )

According to SingTel Support , I need to set 'Access Point' in Main Deco , is that correct ? Or set in SingTel Mesh Router

TP Link Deco Mesh is the best or any other brands ? Any models that you can recommended ?
Price tag for TP Link Deco is not so cheap too.

Thank You
Russell

Just set up the main Deco in AP mode. The mesh node will always run in AP mode.

In terms of AX mesh, TP-Link is one of the cheapest. Better ones like Asus and Netgear Orbi will be more expensive. What is your budget? You may also need to post your floor plan with location of the ONT and Singtel Mesh Router (in the DB box?) and LAN ports in the rooms.

Please advise where can I add my Deco main/nodes if I consider Decos.

SingTel support consult to me that 'SingTel Mesh Router' are only compatible WIFI 6 router to ASUS RT-AX86U and Linksys E9450 AX5400 when I consider to switch to Wifi 6. is this true ?

Do you have LAN ports in the rooms? If yes please indicate the locations of the LAN ports.

What is your budget?

If you do not have LAN ports in the rooms then things become more difficult and you need to significantly raise your budget.

What the SingTel support consultant tells you is totally wrong.

Without the LAN ports in the rooms, it is difficult to meet your needs with S$200 budget, even S$400 may be difficult. One of the cheapest triband AX mesh is TP-Link Deco X68. Tri-pack is about S$499.

Budget can be very different between old flats (no LAN ports in the rooms, you may have to use expensive triband AX mesh system) and new flats (with LAN ports in the rooms, cheaper dual band mesh can be used).

Most likely they are using CAT5E or better cable so you can convert the telephone ports into LAN ports. You may have to engage consultant for that.
Hello

Any recommendation ?

Please explain after convert to LAN ports in all my rooms , Deco main and nodes connect on LAN ports ?
Thank you

Hello Xiaofan

The triband AX mesh for TP Link Deco x68 will help my dead spot issue in my layout ?
If purchase it , where can I place nodes ? It also compatible to Singtel Mesh Router and set as AP ?

even with a triband mesh router, given the long-ish layout of your unit, connection between nodes might not be strong enough as well.

not trying to doubt you.

8 year old BTO should have lan ports.

Easiest is to go to your DB there. see if those ports that look like telephone points, is it labeled as T or D

Yes. You can do like this with cheaper dual band TP-Link like the Deco X20.

ONT -- Singtel Mesh Router

Living room LAN port -- Deco X20 (AP mode)
Master room LAN port -- Deco X20 mesh node
