even with a triband mesh router, given the long-ish layout of your unit, connection between nodes might not be strong enough as well.

not trying to doubt you.

8 year old BTO should have lan ports.

Easiest is to go to your DB there. see if those ports that look like telephone points, is it labeled as T or D
Hello

In DB , there no label at all (T or D)

hmm..then if you want stable connection thru out the house, then maybe can invest in converting your tele ports to data ports.

you can search for such services on carousel.

so when you convert

i believe it will be ONT - (can use a self managed switch) - lan cable to the respective rooms via the patch panel in the DB.

Then use any mesh system to create a ethernet back haul mesh coverage.

Hello all

I read https://dongknows.com/mesh-wi-fi-system-explained/

The wired backhauling mesh is the best options to solve WIFI dead spots.

I have consulted a contractor to LAN Ports and recommend that after convert LAN port , I can added Mesh main nodes in master bedroom and satellite node in bedroom 2 ( refer layout)

Questions:

1) Any good product that easier to setup when connect to LAN Port ?

2) After I have connect Mesh nodes ( e.g TP Link Deco), it will have new wireless SSID/password that all my devices used it , instead of default SingTel MESH ?

My current setup is ONT <--> existing data point <--> SingTel Mesh <--> SingTel TV

Please forgive for NOOB questions. Thank you

1: If your budget is below S$200, you can choose TP-Link Deco X20 dual pack, Asus (AImesh (2 x RT-AX55 from Carousell, around S$80 BNIB). Asus RT-AX55 may have better coverage so I will suggest you to go with that.

2: You need to use a different SSID. You can even try to disable the Wifi of Singtel Mesh router and use just single SSID.

3. Recommended connection scheme:
ONT -- Singtel Mesh Router in DB box (disable wifi) -- existing LAN port in living room -- RT-AX55 in AP mode -- SingTel TV
ONT -- Singtel Mesh Router in DB box (disable wifi) -- new LAN port in master room or bedroom 2 -- RT-AX55 mesh mode

Your Singtel TV box will work normally even if you disable Wifi of Singtel Mesh Router.

Hi Xiaofan

Thank you for response.

Having said that , I can remove SingTel Mesh Router from my setup

ONT <--> RT-AX55 connect to existing LAN port in living room ( default as Router Mesh Mode) --- connect to another RT-AX55 router to have full WIFI Mesh in my house

If above doable ?
Thank you

The question is how you can achieve Ethernet backhaul between the two RT-AX55 without a router in the DB box? Wireless backhaul using RT-AX55 will not be good.

Where is the patch panel? I believe it is in the DB box. If the patch panel is near to the living room LAN port 1, then what you suggest is okay.

Hello Xiaofan

The patch panel is in DB/utility box
My current setup is below

ONT ( which is in DB/utility box) <--> SingTel Mesh (Living Room: connect to ONT by LAN port) <--> SingTel TV (Living Room: connect to SingTel Mesh)

Options to do wire backhaul setup for eliminate wifi dead spot in home:

1)
ONT ( which is in DB/utility box) <--> SingTel Mesh (Living Room: connect to ONT by LAN port) <--> main Asus RT-AX55 (Living Room: connect to SingTel Mesh) as AP <--> secondary RT-AX55 (in bedroom connect via LAN port)

Any issue above setup ? SingTel TV will connect main Asus RT-AX55

This will not work. There is no wired connection from the main living room RT-AX55 to the bedroom RT-AX55.

Hi Xiaofan
My bedroom RT-AX55 is connect to LAN port which connect to DB .
I am follow link below for topology , I have use scenario 4 in the link
[AiMesh] How to set up ASUS AiMesh or ZenWiFi Mesh Ethernet backhaul under different conditions ? (Advanced setup with network switch) | Official Support | ASUS Singapore

For Scenario 4 to work, that 'modem' needs to be a router, so you need to put Singtel Mesh Router in the DB box to work, which is what I mentioned before.

Hello Xiaofan/all
I think I misunderstood LAN port and data point (which is RJ45)

I asked technician to change my telephone points to data point (LAN point) in all my bedroom

ONT ( which is in DB/utility box) <--> SingTel Mesh (Living Room: connect to ONT by data point) <--> main Asus RT-AX55 (Living Room: connect to SingTel Mesh) as AP <--> secondary RT-AX55 (in bedroom connect via data point) and another RT-AX55 (in second bedroom connect via data point)

This doable ?

Hello Xiaofan

Sorry for NOOB question.

The SingTel Mesh Router is the router too , correct ?

If I cannot relocate SingTel Mesh Router to DB , can I still do wired backhaul to eliminate wifi dead spot in my house

ONT <-> connect via data point to SingTel Mesh Router <-> Asus RT-AX55 AiMesh

above is ok ?
Then can I add more Asus RT-AX55 in bedroom via data point ?
Then I can have more wifi coverage in my house ?

Please explain as I very NOOB in networking. Thank you

Hello Xiaofan

Thank you. Good articles.
Watch the videos help me to understand for Wifi Backhaul and Wired Backhaul

I will go for Wired Backhaul , below is my initial plan

1) Relocate SingTel Mesh to DB and connect WAN port to modem (ONT). Then connect to new 3 data point in DB.
D1: Living room
D2 : Bedroom 2
D3: Bedroom 3
D4: Master Bedroom

2) Connect SingTel TV to data port in living room. Do I need to buy switch if I have StarHub TV and PlayStation/Xbox so they can share data port in living room ?

3) Connect Asus AX-RT55 to data point in Bedroom 2. This is a Ai-Mesh Wired Backhaul and is my new Wifi SSID connection for my home. I setup as Access Point , correct ?
Add another Asus AX , it will automatically connect to main Asus , correct or I have manual configure it ?

Any suggestion if my setup below is ok ?
Thank you

1) Yes this is a good plan
2) Yes you will need a switch. A cheap one like TP-Link TL-SG105 should work here (below S$30)
3) Yes you need to configure it in AP mode. And you need to configure when adding more mesh nodes.
