Are you buying single pack or dual pack of Deco BE25?

1. Deco BE25 will be limited to the 1G ONR LAN port connection, no improvement

2. Yes this is the right way. Wired connection will be up to 2.5Gbps (more like 2.37Gbps). Wireless speed will be more like 1Gbps to 1.8Gbps depending on your device. Difficult to be above 2Gbps.

3. If buying single unit, then you may consider the more cost effective model, Archer BE230 dumped by M1 users at around S$85 BNIB from Carousell, dual 2.5G ports, dual band WiFi 7 BE3600, similar spec to Deco BE25.
Thanks Xiaofan!
If I want to have 2 2.5G routers/AP nodes, is it possible?

So wondering if the following configuration will give me 2.5G wifi on 2 routers.:
Nokia ONR 10G Port-> 1st BE25 or BE230 (Living Room)-->2nd BE25/BE230 (MBR).

This means I plug a cable from a LAN port on the 1st BE25/BE230 and connect it to the 2nd BE25/BE230 in the MBR.

If you need mesh solution, then Deco BE25 two-pack (Deco Mesh) is better than Archer BE230 two-pack (TP-Link EasyMesh).

In your daisy-chain style connection, total bandwidth of the two Deco BE25 will be limited to the first connection (max out at 2.5Gbps).

At most you can consume 3.5Gbps bandwidth for your two Deco BE25 units. But then you can still add two more wired devices to be able to consume the full 5Gbps in theory (eg: four wired devices carrying out SpeedTest at the same time).

Nokia ONR 10G LAN port --> main Deco BE25 in AP mode (up to 2.5Gbps) in living room
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port 1 -> second Deco BE25 (up to 1Gbps) in MBR
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port 2 --> other wired device if any (up to 1Gbps) in BR1
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port 3 --> other wired device if any (up to 1Gbps) in BR2

Hi Xiaofan, Need your advice again!
I have been thinking of how to utilize the 10G port on the new Nokia ONR installed by SINGTEL for my 5Gbps enhanced broadband.

Basically I like to connect this 10G port to both my Living room Deco25 BE5000 mesh node and my Macbook Pro in my study (All via ethernet cables). (note: have not bought any equipment ye! just planning options).

I can think of 2 wiring options as follows:

Option 1:
Nokia ONR 10G port to a TPlink 2.5G Switch (SG105-M2).
From the 2.5G switch :
- one port connects to the Deco25 in the LR
- one port connects to the Macbook Pro in the Study

Option2:
Nokia ONR 10G port to Deco 25 Mesh port to Study Macbook Pro.

(note: I will have to get a USB-C to 2.5G ethernet adaptor) to connect to the Macbook pro)

Which option will give me up to 2.5Gbps on both devices?

Thanks!!

(Note: TP LINK SWITCH: https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/unmanaged-switch/tl-sg105-m2/)

1. Both options will limit your total bandwidth to the two devices to 2.5Gbps.

Option 1 --> the switch has only 2.5G ports, so the uplink is only 2.5Gbps
Option 2 --> the WAN port of Deco BE25 is only 2.5Gbps capable, so the uplink is only 2.5Gbps.

2. If you want to get 5Gbps total bandwidth from the two devices, then you should get a cheap 2.5G/10G switch (cheaper than your SG105-M2) and use Option 1.

Singtel ONR and 2.5G/10G switch are both located in the DB Box.
ONR 10G LAN port --> 2.5G/10G switch 10G port 1
2.5G/10G switch 10G port2 --> 2.5G/5G/10G wired device if any
2.5G/10G switch 2.5G port 1 --> Deco BE25 in Living Room (up to 2.5Gbps)
2.5G/10G switch 2.5G port 2 --> Macbook Pro in Study Room (up to 2.5Gbps)
2.5G/10G switch 2.5G port 3 --> other wired device if any (up to 2.5Gbps)
2.5G/10G switch 2.5G port 4 --> other wired device if any (up to 2.5Gbps)

Saw this on Amazon if buying from Taobao is too troublesome. Slightly more expansive but delivery is free if you have prime membership (Singtel BB should provide 12 month complimentary)

I am not on Taobao as I don't read Chinese well. I know there’s a English version but it is not as comprehensive as the Chinese one.

I did some check on ALIEXPRESS and found the same 2.5G/10G Hasvo switch you recommended. Its S$162 (S$148 + tax) for a non PoE version (not sure what Poe does. haha!) - Hasivo S600W-4GT-2XGT-SE

Also what do you think of acpower2025’s recommendation of the Binardat 6 Port 10G Switch, 4 x 2.5G (S$184)?

Thanks again for all your advice!

POE = Power over Ethernet

There are some APs out there uses POE so that you do not need a separate power source to power the APs ;)

Hi Xiaofan, seeking your advice again:

I’ve decided to just go for the 2.5Gbps speed adapters/routers. So have bought the following equipment:
  • TP LINK 5 port 2.5Gb Multi-Gigabit Switch: TL-SG105-M2
  • TP LINK Deco BE25 BE5000 WiFi 7 router - 2 units
  • Belkin USB-C to 2.5G Ethernet Adapter (from Apple Store).
(I am on Singtel 5Gbps Enhanced BB)

With this equipment set up, I find that my Wi-Fi speed is actually lower than when it was connected to the SINGTEL Arcadyan and Askey 1Gb mesh routers- like 500Gbps compared to the previous 700Gbps.

Speed tests using OOKLA app in iPhone 12 Pro.

This is my set up: Note: all WiFi devices are wired to ONR or to Switch.
Living Room:
Singtel Nokia ONR and TP link 2.5Gb switch are both located in the living room side by side. Next to FTP.

Nokia ONR 10G LAN port --> 2.5G Switch port 1.

From 2.5G switch:
Port 2 --> Macbook Pro in Study Room - with USB-C to 2.5G ethernet adaptor. Good speeds showing 2-2.2Gbps.
Port 3 --> Deco BE25 in Living Room : Speed obtained: 400Gbps+ at sofa, 700Gbps+ when phone placed next to Deco BE25. Deco app on iphone shows I am connected via the 5Ghz channel. I thought I would get at least 1.5Gbps. Used to get 700+Gbps with the Arcadyan WE620242.

Port 4 --> 2nd Deco BE25 in Hallway (above ceiling outside MBR) Speed - 200Gbps inside MBR with door closed. Used to get 400Gbps+ with the ASKEY AP5690W.

Port 5- unused for now.

Appreciate your advice on whether my set up is correct. And or how I can get higher Wi-Fi speeds coming out from the Deco BE25.

Thanks!!

Speedtest genuinely depends on the servers. on good days, i can get around 800Mbps.
otherwise, it'll be around 500Mbps...

1) DO check wired speed first before troubleshooting wireless device. It is good that you are getting about 2.2Gbps from your wired device using the USB to 2.5Gbe adapter.

2) And for iPhone 12, which is a lousy WiFi 6 client (only with 80MHz channel bandwidth), you will not see any benefits from the 2.5G capable dual band WiFi 7 router (Deco BE25). But you may test at another time to see if it makes any difference.

3) Do you have other WiFi 6 clients other than iPhone 12?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Other wifi 6 clients - Yes- Ipad, Macbook, iphones of family members. But all these inactive or not present when I did speed testing as family members are out. Only active clients are my iP12 Pro and wired macbook pro (wifi turned off).

(Note: I also used the SINGTEL speed test site and it always show a lower speed than OOKLA speed tests)

I don't think that is an official SingTel SpeedTest site...

Singtel recommends OOkla SpeedTest. And it is better to use the app and not browser for testing.

Hi Xiaofan,
Just to confirm what I think I read before from one of your earlier posts:

For my configuration- I need to use the TP Link DECO APP to set my decos all to "Access Point" mode and NOT to "Wifi Router" mode under the "Operation Mode" menu. Correct?

I asked this because when I first set up my Decos using the APP, it did not asked me what mode so i forgot about it. Only today i recalled about this and went into my Deco app on my iphone to check - and found that the operation mode was set to "Wifi Router" mode which was the default! So I changed it to "AP" mode.
So just confirming I am doing the right thing.
Thanks!

Hi,
I have a SingTel mesh extender. I wish to connect to StarHub router (one of the Nokia beacon models). I enabled wps on the nokia ip address settings and tried wps but failed. I tried changing to access point in the singtel mesh ip address settings but can’t find.

Current situation:
StarHub Nokia router —-(ethernet cable)—->Singtel mesh extender. (Blue steady light. Appear in phone wifi list but unable to connect)

Try factory reset and then see if it can work. WPS will not work as Singtel Mesh Extender is not compatible with Nokia Beacon as a mesh node. But it may auotmatically work as an AP.

Hi,

I have upgraded to 3Gbps plan recently and was given a TPlink HB611. Just checking if it can it be meshed with Deco Be25?

Thanks!

No. TP-Link Deco Mesh (Deco BE25) is not compatible with TP-Link EasyMesh (HB611-SGST)

You can mesh it with other TP-Link EasyMesh compatible routers, like another HB611-SGST, HB810 or HB710. HB710 is from Starhub or MR but it will also work.
