Hi Xiaofan, I have currently using the singtel mesh router. But I am trying to stream from my PC to my handheld and the image is quite choppy. Seems like the wifi is the limiting factor. PC is plugged into LAN in the bedroom 1 and I am facing choppiness in the living room (where the router is) and in master bedroom (where another mesh router is placed). Can the choppiness be fixed if I change to a consumer-grade router?

I've read online that people with <50mb/s download/upload is able to stream smoothly, but I am getting 300 down/ 250 up on my devices but still encounter choppiness.

Latency can be the issue here. What kind of streaming you are doing? I am not really doing this kind of things myself.

Sorry I am not into gaming myself so I cannot help you much.

In any case, there is nothing wrong to upgrade from SingTel Mesh Router to a better one. Whether that would sort out your issue is another story.

Are you using SingTel ONT or ONR?

What you can try is to try ping test to see if you see big variation of the ping value. Ping your PC from your steam deck machine. Most likely latency is the issue here.

One simple way to sort out latency issue is to use wired connection. If that is not possible, you can use powerline adapters which have slower speed than wireless but better latency.

Please take note some of the Singtel issued router will be out of support on after 30-Nov-2024. You may want to upgrade them to a new supported one, either from Singtel or from outside.

I think we can use this thread for the discussions of the following Singtel issued routers and mesh solutions as well, from Arcadyan and Askey.
Even though I do not recommend Singtel users to use the above, but they are the bundled free WiFi 6 router or mesh solution now for Singtel 2Gbps/3Gbps/5Gbps/10Gbps plans.

1. Back in early 2022, Singtel was still providing old Singtel WiFi 5 Mesh solutions:
1) A pair of Askey AP5100W (AC1750) for medium-sized homes, it is not a router and only can function as AP/mesh node.

2) A pair of Singtel Mesh Extender (AC2600) for households with multiple connections, it is not a router and only can function as AP/mesh node.

3) Netgear RBK752 (triband AX4200) for multi-storey homes

4) And it is also possible to use Singtel Mesh Router (AC1900) + Singtel Mesh Extender (AC2600) as a mesh solution. Both Ethernet Backhaul (recommended) and Wireless Backhaul (not recommended) are supported.

Reference: Singtel Mesh Router (AC1900) + Singtel Mesh Extender (AC2600) (one unit or two units or even more)

I have not seen Singtel documentation mentioning whether the following configuration can function as a mesh support of the following combination.

Hopefully Singtel users can confirm whether the following is working or not. I tend to believe it will work.

Askey
Singtel ONT/ONR --> Wi-Fi 6 Router RT5703W --> wired or wireless backhaul --> Wi-Fi 6 Mesh AP5690W

Arcadyan
Singtel ONT/ONR --> Wi-Fi 6 Router (WG660242-ST) - --> wired or wireless backhaul --> Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Extender (WE620242-ST)

can, as long as it's within the same brand

Singtel issued Wireless Router --> it is good to put aside the old routers which are no longer supported.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/support/broadband/routers-ont

1) Not a router, they will only work as an AP or mesh node.
2) Work with Singtel ONT as the main router, automatically working as an AP when connected to an Singtel ONR. These routers have SIngtel VLAN built-in and cannot be used with other ISP's ONT as the main router.
  • AC Plus -- Security updates up to 30 November 2024 only, no longer supported.
  • AC Elite (AC1900) -- no more security update for quite some time
  • Singtel Mesh Router --Security updates up to 30 November 2024 only, no longer supported.
  • AirTies Air 4960R -- Security updates up to 30 November 2024 only, no longer supported. AP mode may or may not work well (needs confirmation).
  • Wi-Fi 6 Router RT5703W -- Singtel will provide security updates up to 10 March 2026.
  • Wi-Fi 6 Router (WG660242-ST) -- Singtel will provide security updates up to 5 August 2026.
3) Work with Singtel ONR as an AP for the 5Gbps/10Gbps plan. Work with other ISP's ONT as a main router but FW download is only from Singtel.

I have a Singtel Mesh router that I bought about 2 years ago. Is singtel mesh extender V2 backward compatible with a Singtel mesh router that is 2 years old? Any backward compatibility risk?

By right it should work.

But to play safe you may want to double confirm with SingTel.

Some discussions about Singtel ONR + Singtel Mesh Router and IPv6 here.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/ipv6-discussions.6976522/page-20

Because you do not use Singtel ONT. Only when used with Singtel ONT it will work properly as a router and then have the IPv6 settings.

When used behind a router (Singtel ONR, or your 4G router), it automatically run in AP mode and then no IPv6 settings possible. By right, it should pass through the IPv6 settings.

All in all, it is a customized router for Singtel. If it works for you then good, If not, then too bad, nothing you can do about it.

Just dig out my old Singtel Mesh router and connect it to an OpenWRT router with Singtel 6rd IPv6.

You can see that Singtel Mesh router does not get an IPv6 address, and the IPv6 setting is greyed out. But the wireless client (an Acer laptop which I am typing on to reply) has no problem to get proper IPv6 address.

It is the same for other Singtel issued router or mesh nodes.

For example, other than TP-Link HB810 and HB611-SGST WiFi 7 router, Singtel users may have the following WiFi 6 router or AP/Mesh node.

1) WiFi 6 mesh node only, not a router, they will function as AP or mesh node when connected to Singtel ONR or other routers. They are supposed to be able to pass through IPv6 in normal case.
Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Extender (WE620242-ST)
Wi-Fi 6 Mesh AP5690W

2) Singtel WiFi 6 router, they will function as a router only when connected to Singtel ONT (not working when connected to other ISP's ONT). They will automatically function as an AP when connected to Singtel ONR or other routers. They are supposed to be able to pass through IPv6 in normal case.
Wi-Fi 6 Router RT5703W
Wi-Fi 6 Router (WG660242-ST)

I just tested the following connection and there is no issue to get IPv6 working.

OpenWRT router with Singtel 6rd IPv6 --> Singtel Wi-Fi 6 Router (WG660242-ST) which automatically run in AP mode --> laptop as the wireless client (no issues with IPv6).

One issue I found with the Singtel Wi-Fi 6 Router (WG660242-ST) is that 160MHz connection does not seem to work. It does not matter much though since the 1Gbps WAN port will limit WiFi internet speed (from WAN to wireless) and 1Gbps LAN port will limit WiFi intranet speed (from LAN to wireless) to be below 1Gbps anyway.

3m distance WiFi speed, using Acer Swift 3 early 2021 model (Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU, Intel AX201 WiFi 6 adapter), 1201 Mbps PHY connection speed (2x2 AX 80MHz, 1024 QAM).

Bash:
PS C:\work\speedtest\ookla-speedtest-1.2.0-win64> .\speedtest.exe -s 13623

   Speedtest by Ookla

Server: Singtel - Singapore (id: 13623)
         ISP: Singtel Fibre
Idle Latency: 5.92 ms (jitter: 0.36ms, low: 5.54ms, high: 6.62ms)

                 20.58 ms (jitter: 12.27ms, low: 4.29ms, high: 72.92ms)

Hi xiaofan, need your advice again!
As mentiioned in another thread, SINGTEL came to install the new ONR and wifi 6 router (AP mode) today.
Plan: 5Gbps Wifi 6 at $29.90
ONR: Nokia XS-240X-A
Wifi 6 mesh: Arcadyan WE620242-ST (Single unit)

Background:
I bought a dual pack Askey Mesh node AP5690W in 2023 to act as a wired AP node for my inner bedrooms. I only used one unit . The one setup in the Living Room at the FTP area was a wired AIR TIES Air 4960R connected to the old ZTE ONT.

So now: I have the new Arcadyan WE620242 in my living room connected to the new ONR. And an older wired ASKEY AP5690W in the MBR .

My understanding is that it is better to have 2 mesh routers/node of the same model.

So my question: Which Singtel wifi 6 mesh extender is better?

The Askey AP5690W or Arcadyan WE620242-ST?

If the ASKEY AP5690W is better, than I will simply just replace the newly installed Arcadyan WE620242 Mesh node with the spare ASKEY AP5690W . Then I will have the LR and MBR mesh node to be the same model.
Note: both are connected by Cat6 LAN cables from the ONR.

If the Arcadyan WE620242 mesh is better, then I can buy an additional one from Carousell to replace the ASKEY AP5690 in my MBR.

Appreciate your advice! Thanks!

Same same, both are lousy, do not spend extra money on them.

Just go with the AP5690W in this case since you already have it. Keep the WE620242-ST as a backup.

Thanks Xiaofan for the quick reply.

Need further advice!
Right now with the new setup, I am getting Wi-Fi speeds of about 500 to 700 Mbps. I believe that’s because of two things:
  1. My LAN cables is connected to the 1G LAN port on the Nokia ONR
  2. Both the Arcadyan & Askey AP routers connected by the LAN cables are rated 1GB only max.
I have two questions, that I need your advice on:

I am thinking of buying TP link Deco BE25 to boost my Wi-Fi speed. The BE25 has 2 x 2.5G ports. These are the 2 configurations listed below I’m thinking of. But I need your advice on them.

1. ONR 1G LAN Port to Deco BE25
  • Will I be able to get Wi-Fi speeds of up to 2.5GBPs?
  • Or will it be up to 1Gbps due to the ONR 1G LAN port?
2. ONR 10G LAN Port to Deco BE25
  • Will I be able to get Wi-Fi speeds of up to 2.5GBPs?
(Just to refresh: I now have a SINGTEL 5Gbps enhanced plan with wifi6)

Thanks again for your advice!

Are you buying single pack or dual pack of Deco BE25?

1. Deco BE25 will be limited to the 1G ONR LAN port connection, no improvement

2. Yes this is the right way. Wired connection will be up to 2.5Gbps (more like 2.37Gbps). Wireless speed will be more like 1Gbps to 1.8Gbps depending on your device. Difficult to be above 2Gbps.

3. If buying single unit, then you may consider the more cost effective model, Archer BE230 dumped by M1 users at around S$85 BNIB from Carousell, dual 2.5G ports, dual band WiFi 7 BE3600, similar spec to Deco BE25.
