I'll make one last OT post on this.
The forum admin have not taken action on such posts and so neither will I here.
Use the ignore function if it irritates you. I do the same and ignore the post unless they are of an offensive nature.

All non Sony posts will be deleted.

Anyone looking to get the outgoing 65" OLED A8F, this is the best time to get it.

[snip]

Picture quality wise, having played around with both at home over the different sources, the Sony beats the LG B8 hands down. The colours are more natural and have more depth. Glad that the Sony promoter talked me into getting the Sony for the 65 inch.

How does the A8F's in-app navigation perform? I read that the Android OS on this TV is painfully sluggish..

Thanks.

Not sure if it's model dependent, mine is 8500F and it's still on 7.0, Sony did announced in Feb that 8.0 will be delayed.

Models from 2017 to 2018 will have the update.
However they have yet to announce exactly when the update will arrive.

Yes. Tried getting latest update (Oreo apparently) but got the message that its not available for now. Been pending since Feb apparently.
Seem like Sony is very slow in terms of Android TV base Android update. Google already release Android TV based on v9.0 Pie when 8.0 Oreo still not available for Sony.

Btw is the latest Android 7.0 software support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos?
I saw review on YouTube it does support for app like Netflix but based on which software version i not too sure.

Dolby Atmos:
https://www.avforums.com/threads/dolby-atmos-with-netflix-on-a-sony-tv.2203601/

Only 2018 Sony models or newer can do Dolby Atmos.

Dolby Vision: 2016 models or newer via firmware updates
https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1527320589

Just FYI. Android TV OS version, Nvidia Shield TV and Mi Box Global got the update to Android 8. Mi Box S comes with Android TV 8.1.

Mi Box S has no Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Only HDR10, DTS and DD 5.1.

Nvidia Shield TV has no Dolby Vision or HDR10+. Only HDR10. It has Dolby Atmos but Dolby Atmos is not available in the Netflix app.

So Sony Android TV is still better in this aspect.

Is the update auto? Anyway is it a big deal to update? I usually don’t give a dam about updates as long as the tv works. Lol

Yes, I feel the same too. I read about the web page of the planned 8.0 update, it will alter the use of the remote control, change the interfaces that I have been familiar with.

Maybe the main feature of it is google play to let user add in apps. I find not much to play with on tv for me. I use it for MC tv programs and Youtube videos. The installed video player does not work as it should as it does not recognise the video name and play the next video in sequence, unlike my old LG tv which I dumped away. So it stopped using it to view recorded videos.

Especially when the interface gets laggy with more stuff put into it. Was just watching vids on how to speed the interface up by disabling the web /app features. If I want to stream I’d get an Apple TV or something.

Yes that is a good approach. Get Apple TV 4k or Nvidia Shield TV for your app needs. They have better more powerful CPU to handle the apps.

Apple TV 4K also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmosphere for streaming applications like Netflix, but not for local media playback.

Or use your mobile phone to run apps and cast to TV. Sony Android TV has the built-in Chromecast function you can utilize with supported apps like Starhub Go, HBO Go, Toggle, etc.

Noted on all your feedback regarding Android based TV.

Will be getting Sony 49" X9000F after reading all the reviews, YouTube reviews and see it personally in stores and impt is it have FALD, and after comparison with LG 49" SK8000 and Samsung 49" RU8000, both also lack of FALD.

Now I am just waiting for June or Sept 2019 IT SHOW to buy. More or less settle, just need to see the final offer price and any additional freebies. The current price I see in store for 49" X9000F is $2179 from Gain City.
