I'm actually surprisingly keen on this phone, or 1 mark II for the camera pro app. wonder if the ability to shoot in manual and raw format outweigh the ability to shoot 5x or 10x lossless.

My last Xperia was Z5.

My last Xperia was Z5.

shoot in manual = when you need the manual controls for certain things, which in reality is only really employed in scenarios like light painting, long exposure etc.

shoot 5x, 10x = depends how often you need to shoot subjects that are far away from you. This scenario is mostly for wildlife shooting. You wouldn't need 10x for a portrait for example, you'd just stand closer to the subject. And for landscapes/scenery you'd actually need the opposite (a wide lens, not telephoto)

Now with that being said. There will be scenarios where you can 'zoom' by walking closer to subject. But if your camera lacks manual, there's nothing you can do about it. However the vast majority of smartphones these days have some degree of manual control already, which 3rd party apps can use. It's just a matter of how much control you have in your model. For instance the Pixel 3a XL I use can only go up to 4 seconds of shutter speed, barely enough for fireworks, not enough for long exposures, while in the past I've had LG phones that can go up to 30s

GSMArena's review is up:

https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_5_ii-review-2173.php

Battery endurance looks great!

120Hz is overkill for most apps excluding demanding games. So 60Hz with extra hours of usage is welcome.

One baffling thing about these battery tests, is the smaller phone does not match the talk time of the bigger one with similar size battery. Not sure if the size of the phone affects call or reception performance.

Yeah cheaper price is always welcome.

But you get an weird hole in top of display, cheaper and older glass on display (Gorilla 3 vs 6 on X5 II), still no 3.5mm jack and no front speakers.

And free buds? Why? Because it is a worse earphones than sony's.

Glass is glass, no matter what it will still break.

The 5II is still a better phone over the FE. The price won’t be too far off too.

Whether 5ii or S20FE is better is a value judgement here ba. All boils down to what is important for you.

If you absolutely need wireless charging and 3 generations of Android updates, then go with the S20FE. If you can't live without a 3.5mm jack and hate punchhole display, then go with the 5ii.

Both Sony and Samsung have fairly compelling products right now and it's good to see that there are more options worth considering in this price range.
