Logitech speakers seem lacking in midrange and treble, and often replaced by unnecessary loud boomy bass. Had heard 2 Logitech systems already.

So do you use your speakers mainly for gaming or music?

gaming music movies..maybe due to my eq settings and my ears...hehe..

anyway u shud go listen to those bookshelves speaker...far far better den multimedia speakers like wat squalljay says ah...

The thing about T40 is that it is versatile-- suitably for gaming, movies and of course, music.

Can these bookshelf speakers perform when playing games or watching movies? Hmm...

My usage are as follows:

Music-- 65%
Movies-- 25%
Games-- 10%

Any more suggestions?

Given that, some will recommend AegoM with a DAC. Others will say go for JohBlue, Audio Engine, Travagans, etc. Yet some will recommend Altec Lansing MX6021, Logitech Z5500, Creative Gigaworks. So you decide what you want.

Creative have the "spoil after 1 year remote" reputation already.

LOL , my creative speaker only after 2 years start to have problems. Now my 4 year old creative mp3 just died on me.

What's fustrating is that remote issue is a repeating case from numerous complaints from Creative owners with different models, not a single batch occurence.

Either it was engineered so or they have serious design/QC issues...

I am currently looking for a speaker after deciding to sell my Altec Lansing VS2321. They are good, but way too much interference! I have a Creative X-Fi extreme gamer sound card.

I am using speakers mainly for-- music, and movies. I am not a pro-gamer and I don't game that much.

Boomy speakers like Logitech are out though.

Any audiophiles there willing to recommend me? I am unsure whether surround system suits my needs, or just a basic 2.0 speakers.

I have short-listed a few-- namely the Gigaworks T40, HD50, or even the G500 or the Megaworks (all from Creative).

My budget is up to $400.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

if TS is so bent on getting multimedia speakers. There's no need to recommend bookshelves anymore. To each his own.

With such high budget for personal listening, it'll be a waste of money buying multimedia speakers.

pls be aware that if u buy a bookshelf speakers, u need to pair it with a reasonably good amp, buy suitable interconnects and cables...those will add up to at least a grand if u want something decent..

If movies, i prefer 5.1 surround. If music, i prefer 2.0 floor stand or book shelf. You can't get the best of both worlds. You just have to see which one you really need it for. Frankly, for music speakers....400 bucks budget a bit tight. Average one plus amp chao chao 1K+. I recommend stick to multimedia speakers.

I would think multimedia speakers are a better bet if u are going to put the speakers on the table.

I used to run bookshelves (on stand) with integrated amp with my PC. and the speakers have to be placed very far befind or u got to sit real behind to enjoy the speakers fully.
Multimedia speakers speakers are designed to be placed on the table and listened at close range.

I might be wrong, cuz i many years never play this kind of thing liao

get the Klipsch one, ProMedia Ultra 2.0, i think its more bang for buck than the T40.

this thread has piqued my interest.

would even a cheap pair of bookshelf speaker such as these sony ones coupled with a cheap stereo receiver sound better than multimedia speakers such as the gigaworks?

i know sound is subjective and everyone should audition speakers before they purchase them... but would there be a noticable difference?

you need to have a very sharp ear in order to really notice the slight difference in sound quality between different types of speakers, that's why some people are very good at musical instruments while some are not.

anyway, bookshelves speakers are better than multimedia ones are because of their structure and output power. i don't know much about it myself, coz i don't use bookshelves(i have a pair of big ones i ripped from an old radio, but it doesn't have a integrated amp, is it counted as a bookshelf?)

this pair of speakers are at least 15 years old... though they still work...

i know most will say overprice but it sound balanced and quite rich to me, what surprised me is that the bass is quite rich even without a woofer. loved it when i test drive it last time at bose showroom.

maybe you should go test drive all the speakers to hear what your ears like within your budget.

Get Klipsch promedia ultra 2.0 better only $179 from aGenuine. I got it from there, super happy with it, looks good too.

ah well, since i have the table space, i plugged to 2 speakers into my sonicgear sub... which is supplying only a miserable 8W to each side...

well, at least the highs are pretty clear and mid-range... well, its still there...

I have tried listening to Bose speakers at Challenger Funan. And IMHO, they sound similar to mid to high end Altec Lansing speakers. If that's the case, might as well stick to my current VS2321.
