I am using a 4g phone, now giga upgraded my line to 5g. Do I have to get a 5g physical sim card now? It can be used in a 4g phone? 4g sim card cannot receive 5g network? Thank you.

Yes, upgrade to get 5G, but now seems problematic with 5G, so even after upgrading to 5G SIM might not get 5G.
5G is usable on 4G phone, but 4G SIM card not able to obtain 5G connectivity.

Your reply to frozt is a little messed up @mac_t13

What phone are you using?
4g sim card cannot receive 5g network?
4G sim shouldn't be able to receive 5G NSA network.

Previously there was a period where GIGA screwed up with provisioning of the 5G and ESIM when they first released 5G plan and ESIM activation but should be fine these days since it has been 1 month plus.
Even i got my 5G after 2 weeks,

Maybe you can browse through GIGA FB page to see if there are anymore recent complains about 5G or eSim?
Additionally, if possible, check if your phone is 5G capable.

I am not sure how much the old 4g plan cost, but if it's the same cost, no harm staying with it even if your phone is not 5g capable.

I am using hwawei nova 4g phone.
Stay with current SIM if you do not need 5G even though Giga provided free upgrade to 5G.
If you want to get 5G SIM card first, then yes, pay and get the new SIM card that supports 5G. New 5G SIM card still works on your 4G Huawei Nova.
Got it?

The new 5G include 2GB monthly roaming. I need that so change even though no 5G on iPhone.

Right now still seeing 5G in the north, probably the area you are in got congested with people or devices or something?

I am at home in CCK, still the same currently. maybe let's see tomorrow when I go to work.

Update (3/7): 5G seems ok now even at home, does really looks to be congestion last night

thanks info.

We are experiencing issues with roaming in woodland areas, as well as poor reception in most of the NEL tunnels / underground locations.

Just to share my recent experience. I was on $15 4g plan and changed to $18 5G

Requested to swap to esim on the app and the qr code was generated instantly.

After installation, click activate in the app and physical sim immediately died and connected to network on esim.

On next renewal cycle, restarted phone and got connected to 5G immediately.

Using galaxy S24 regular
