Just curious where do you get the consensus on the num of current active 3G only users?

They will replace 3G with absolutely no signal soon. Best for doing k**ky stuff. No disturbance.
it was in the news. I read it somewhere recently

Is it will see 5G immediately upon activation? I just received SIM card, activated and done with APN, but only seeing 4G/4G+. Anything I missed out or must wait for a few days to start seeing 5G connection? On POCO F3, SIM 1 slot, set to prefer 5G.

Thanks. :)

Problem is a lot more current 4G users will have higher propensity to stick through 4G than upgrading to 5G as compared to 3G to 4G last time cos 3G was still not fast enough to do some bandwidth demanding stuff while 4G is still largely unsaturated and most people don't need 5G at all (including myself).

But having first hand encounter with worst case scenario of 4G congestion even before 3G shuts down, while 5G SA has become reasonably priced and very affordable these days. I don't see why people shouldn't upgrade if they can afford to enjoy the exclusivity and spaciousness while they still can.

Current diehard 4G users won't learn until they encounter the same hard way as myself to be motivated and move to 5G.

So far 5G SA coverage has been satisfactory for me on both Singtel and Giga with no occurrence of total no bar no signal.

as of March 2024, barely any 3G lines left (30+k). This is a sharp decline from January.

Now in June should be even lesser as more and more would have migrated from 3g already.

Network congestion on 4G (if any) would have already felt the impact. But 4G still feels ok for me.

5G NSA leverages on existing 4G network, is like "4G turbo". Unless there's a need faster peak speed, I don't see myself upgrading to 5G NSA for that reason alone. Most are migrating to 5G SA to avoid network congestion.
is it true that 5G SA drain more battery?

It's the same when 4G initially started. Less signal towers means your phone need to hunt for signal more, hence higher battery usage. Of course, the 5g modem in your phone also needs more juice to deliver the highest speeds.

That's some great data.

I was on giga 4G since June 2019 being their pioneer batch of subscribers sticking through to this month.

For me the very first congestion was felt during 2019 NDP but it was still very much usable and I could stream videos (albeit low quality). Probably cos 4G take up rate still not so much back then.

2nd major occurrence was during 2022 NDP which I believe was the first major mass event around Marina Bay Sands area after Covid. Data was essentially unusable. Guess by then more people jumped onto 4G MVNO lines. Singtel was usable on my friend's line. And I even witnessed some family streaming NDP projecting onto silverscreen from mobile projector while having picnic in front of the bay NGL. (I try to find picture later lol) I believe it was Singtel too. But I stuck through my giga line cos it was cheap and Singtel still expensive then.

It was only this year when I started going mass concerts that I found such congestions getting more frequent. That's when I started having second thoughts to look for better alternatives.

New sign up.

Tried restarting phone, tried airplane mode on and off. Still same. Tried talking to live agent but no one replied. Lol. Shall wait a few days and see.

Try turning off phone, remove SIM card and reboot phone (to cleanse off all network settings)

Turn off phone to install ur SIM card again and reboot to let your phone auto set network settings again.

Make sure your network settings Standalone 5G is turned on.

For me, my transition from Giga 4G physical SIM to 5G eSIM earlier 1st June was seamless.

Tried Liao. Can't. Initially thought my location cui, now at another location also 4G/4G+. On physical SIM, not eSIM.

Guess can only wait for live agent already. How long they normally take to reply?

Thanks for helping! :)

If you have facebook account, take the time to login and contact GIGA through it as well.

it worked for me as compared to email and the live chat

Tried putting SIM card into POCO X6 Pro & OnePlus 10T, both can get 5G connection. Put zym into POCO F3, got 5G.

Don't think any issue with telco, which uses n40 & n66 bands. POCO F3 only got n66. Didn't see n40 on the spec list. :(

Not very sure whether is this correct or not, but googled around and found this result.

Singapore does not use n40 and n66. Starhub uses n1 and n78

Oh, is it? Both bands you mentioned supported by F3. Don't know why cannot get 5G Liao.
On any of those phones u tried that can receive 5G. Go and download from Play Store this app called "Network Signal Guru" and check the band number your Giga 5G is receiving. My Singtel 5G SA is running on N77 band BTW.. Forgot to test my giga 5G before porting over. :o
