Hi Anyone,

Looking for advice.

Want to upgrade my 300mb to 1gb starhub fibre and intend to purchase own router.
Should i invest in ac68u or 868l is good enough? Read 868 is good but how does it perform with starhub 1gb plan? My Current router dlink 5402.

Secondly how to activate 1gb plan with new router? Just plug in new router and call starhub to provide router info with sign 2 years contract?

Lastly the ONT need to be replace?

Thank you for your time and info.

well it's now almost 18/24 mths into my contract and surprisingly i am happy/pleased with my $29/mth 100 Mbps fibre bb that i took up last year during Valentine's Day :D Came from Singtel ADSL bb 15 Mbps $28/mth and the step up was worth it but from what i read all telcos bb seem to be hit/miss maybe according to estate lol I think i would like to recontract seeing in my estate SH seems to be working good but hope got good deals hehe

My experience with the DIR-868L is mostly fine so far. It always manages to reach green status from orange after some time from power on.

Wired connection is solid, no disconnections so far.

Wireless connection is mostly fine too. Of course there are blind spots like toilet and the furthest corners of the household, but it is ok. :o

need advice
invited by Starhub to trial their fiber... as I already on ViewQwest and using port #1.. so that means will have use port #2 of ONT for Starhub?
Query, does that meant Openet have to pull another fiber to my ONT or simply activate port #2 using existing fiber cable?
Reason for asking... my ONT is loacted in a cupboard so it will be very difficult to pull another fiber cable as cabinet will be a hindrance. For myy 1st fiber.. contractor leave a string for ease of pulling in the cable..
Thanks!

just changed from the dir 868l to the asus ac68u.

was wondering about wired. i am on the homehub 500, but i am only able to get up to 325mbps download via speedtest on download. upload was fine, above 475mbps.

previously dir 868l can go up to max download and max uplaod of 500mbps. anything that im missing out? :/ i did the static ip on my pc; i realize that there was an option for it in the router itself, but i did it (had both static ip on router and pc), then realize the speed went down, so i off-ed the one on the router.

any advice? :(

EDIT: found out that it's the cloning of MAC address. same thing happened to my dlink the other time, after cloning, internet was stable, but got max dl speed of 300+mbps only. same thing for asus. but i dont really want to clone the mac address because i wan the full 500mbps. off-ed it on dlink without issues, but now asus having intermittent connection drops. wireless is fairly stable.

sian, how uh like that...

you meant pulling another fiber cable into my house? so 2 fiber, one for port #1 and other for port #2? Thanks!

Optical Fibre Termination Point has two ports. In your case #1 - VQ and #2 - SH (new ONT).

No laying of cable for Optical Fibre Termination Point but they might need to do patching outside ur unit to activate it. Then of course, u need a new Fiber cable between your existing Optical Fibre Termination Point (port #2) to the new ONT.

I am using dir 868l router in the living room. My pc using wifi connection and the speed is very very very very low (cant even hit 10 mbps). But my room slightly closer to the room can receive (50-60mbps).

Are there any method to boost up the speed ?

Here an example of my setup:

(Living room) My router -- Storeroom -- my room (wifi)

For yr 2.4ghz band. u can try set to full N or mix N&G
For yr 5ghz. set to AC only.

can change channel to less crowded one also. use a app on yr phone to scan from yr room and see which channel is used less. set yrs to that.

yes u can change all these on yr router wireless setting page

:s12:

Setup --> wireless Settings --> Manual wireless connection setup

also use WPA2/AES for yr security. wireless N iirc works better on this security setting.
