Hi guys, I am on starhub 200mbps fibre plan. Using the default dlink router they have given. my dota 2 gameplay is kinda spiking all the way through and sometimes will DC too. Im thinking of changing to ASUS router as mentioned in other threads done by other bros here or just hook up a ugly direct connection across my living room. heres the problem:

1: If im using direct connection, which cable(cat5/6?) should i be getting. its about 10-11 steps away how long of the cable i should get?

2: if i were to change the dvg-n5402sp dlink router to ASUS router, would i be able to use digital voice for phone calls, currently i can use fax machine and phone

1. measure yourself?

2. will appreciate if you read through the thread. This has been discussed way too many times already

I believe somewhere in these pages someone mentioned VeCM= Voice enabled cable modem which you need to connect to starhub's cable box in order for you to use DV

didn't know you can "feel" can go higher for a device.

nope, it has been discussed so many times that it is in many of the 190pages.

if you guys aren't happy having the need to flip through many pages, blame the mods for banning TS.

Hi,

I am thinking of getting the starhub fibre 100mbps plan. I think they provide the D-link and huawei routers. For the wired connection, we can actually connect direct through D-link or huawei? Is there any difference? Has anyone tested the wired connection speed via the Huawei or D-link router? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Im using SH 100mbps fiber but the overseas speed is really slow. Only 5mbps on speedtest.

I would suggest going with Viewquest

Hi All,

I have just signed up for the the starhub 100mbps plan today and I have done some research by reading this thread and would like to check on some missing links that i have or to reconfirm my knowledge.

Just abit of background on my step up:
- I do not need digital voice
- My optic fibre point is right behind my maindoor (90squaremeter hdb apartment) since running the rubbish cable through my living room will spoil the deco of my flat.
- I am not expecting very high speed. So long as can get around 30-40mbps (that would means 2x as fast as my current BB), i am pretty happy

Questions:

1) Direct ONT is possible since i do not need DV. Do we need to inform starhub to activate some settings? Or its a mere plug and play without additional configuration?

2) Instead of getting a better router (i believe the Asus N66 is the hot fav here) will homeplug be better?

3) Will my built in wireless card be ready to tap the Asus N66 if i am willing to burn $200 odd cash? Does my mobo comes with dual band that can tap the 5ghz band? Is it draft N or N?

My mobo is as below.
