... Model is ASUS UX31E ultrabook i7 CPU@1.8Ghz 4Gb ram.

Whether I load the speedtest.net site on firefox or IE or chrome, it always load so slow. But it loads very fast on the technician laptop.. Why? Anyone can advise?
My browsers are all updated, to latest version. And I also scan my anti-virus software, and everything ok. Or do I clean to clean up my system, using like all those registry cleaner tool?

Anyone got any idea why my notebook facing this sort of issue? Any help or advise?

BTW my router is ASUS RTN56U, new one, and technician also tested no issue with router.

ASUS UX31E don't come with RJ45 port and you're using USB-to-RJ45 adapters right? Try plugin to the USB3.0 port instead of the 2.0 port :

csm_IMG_0527_b802077d85.jpg

From: USB to RJ-45 Adapter: Convert a USB Port into a Network Port! | excitingip.net

USB 3.0 easily supports gigabit speeds and hence you can connect to gigabit networks (10/100/1000 Mbps) at the full speed offered by them. These two are the latest standards that support the highest speeds (as of today) and hence it is recommended that you buy adapters compliant with these, instead of the ones that support only older standards (like USB 2.0 or 10/100 Mbps ports).

Practical speeds of 100 – 110 Mbps is achievable if you plug the adapter/converter into a USB 3.0 port. If you plug it into a USB 2.0 port, you’ll achieve only 25% of USB 3.0 speeds.

Used my reward points to redeem dlink 865. Actually wireless only for my gadgets(smart phone and tablet). Pc using direct wire connection

Under wireless I saw got 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Whats the difference and which is good fpr my usuage?

Thanks

if your gadgets can support 5ghz, use that, as 2.4ghz frequency is normally crowded by other neighbours and your own equipment at home, eg DECT phones.

I've talked to their fake ang mo slangish pinoy cso before regarding my poor fibre speed, vomited a lot of blood before things got done. Now I rather spend some money than to shorten my lifespan talking to those pinoys again.

I normally will make sure either they fully refund me all the **** and cancel the contract with no strings attached or they come and change the stuff until it works. my point is to make their life a living hell for not doing what they should be doing. internet speed is my secondary concern. I'm sure as hell I can live with it, but no way man.

Hi all, I am very confused now about the SH fibre connection.
Just a few days ago, my browsing and page loading of some websites was slow (via notebook through wifi), and I tested the speed on speedtest.net and it was only 2-3Mbps only and only less than 10Mbps through wired direct connect to my notebook. So I called up SH and they agreed to arrange their technician to come down and take a look. Just yesterday, I tried again myself and it is better but only maybe 10-20Mbps (wifi also).

Toady, the technician came down, tested the speed on speedtest.net, he got around 40-50Mbps on his laptop (via wifi), and nearly 90-100Mbps (via direct lan). Then I tried on my notebook, and I dunno why the speedtest.net page takes so long to load, and takes a longtime to finish the test. Last time it was not like that. And the adobe flash plugin keeps crashing on firefox, is this the issue? But the same page also loads very slow on chrome and IE too. But it works out fine on the technician laptop. Something wrong with my notebook? And finally when the test finished after sometime on my notebook, the speed only 30-40Mbps (wifi) and 50-60Mbps (direct lan). Anyone know why can what causes this issue?
Because my notebook is quite new also, only bought last year. Model is ASUS UX31E ultrabook i7 CPU@1.8Ghz 4Gb ram.

let me give you a breakdown of what could have gone wrong, most the highest possibility to the lowest:

1) your technician cheat you cos SH is a retard company run by retards
2) your plug in is corrupted. re-install the plugin. remove it completely before re-installing. please google how to do so.
3) your anti-virus software is crippling your network. please post what your AV software is and check all the AV network settings.
4) your network card (ethernet and wifi) card is faulty (RMA the laptop if still under warranty)
5) SH is throttling your speeds based on MAC IP
6) you accidentally throttled your own speed in the router's settings page

that's all. I'd suggest a full refresh on your system (wipe the whole disk and re-install the OS) and try again. Make sure you download all the drivers needed on a external drive before refreshing. Do not install any thing other than the essential drivers: network, sound, graphics, USB.
DO NOT INSTALL ANY ANTI-VIRUS. install chrome and try again.

if the problem still persists, it's definitely hardware...

Hey guys I'm currently running starhub fibre on DVG-N5402SP.

capturerag.jpg

The range sucks and I can't even receive any signal in one of my room and toilet.

Thinking of getting asus RT-N66U at sitex. Is it easy to set up plug and play style, or like some say must call starhub and wait for days?

Hi, i'm using Starhub fibre with RT-N66U and DVG as AP. Its quite easy to set it up in less than 1 minutes. But I'm having a direct ONT connection rather than bridging thru DVG.

Very disappointed with starhub recently, everything was fine and dandy till it was time to recontract.

firstly my parents was talked into upgrading to a 200mbps plan from the current 50mbps as the sales person said its the minimum required for our home hub plan.

they came back and told me happily that we have 200mbps but i cant bear to break it to them that the dumb huawei router that we got at first cant even reach 35mbps on a good day.

secondly, my mum asked for a number change for my younger brother and the salesperson said it will be done in the next working day. and now we are, almost 3 weeks later and my mum still have to call customer support.

thirdly, wanted to change the router but after reading through a few other threads over here, found out that i cant just plug and play any routers i want, not without calling them and forgoing Voip anyway.

The packaged 'home hub' with 200 Mbps sucks anyway. It's a lousy promo than their ala carte 'hubbing' promo. I was recommended to take their home hub 200mbps but flatly refused. They accepted my 'ala carte' hubbing of 100 Mbps (with 6 months free) + HD Deluxe TV pack with 6 months free sports. FYI I still get free router, free mobile BB, free home line and all are re contracted.

Note: only valid via 1630 sales team.
Note: I finished my cable tv contract. I switched from cable to fibre. Getting their free new fibre router too.

damn, should have done the same as you, current huawei 256s router is acting up and according to them its out of warranty and i will be $199 out of pocket if they were to change it for me.

i find it ridiculous that they are offering a better package to new customers than to existing ones.

and something i forget to mention in my previous post, they are at least efficient in cutting off your access, recontract on sunday(one day before contract ends), they cut off my fibre on monday and i only got back connection on friday.

god i swear that starhub exist for the sole purpose of making the other telco seems bearable

Well actually that promo is valid for new and existing customers. Just that you've to DIY the best "hubbing" deals

Anyone noticed that NewMediaExpress speedtest server was renamed to StarHub Ltd? Guess they finally had the guts to come clean about it.

Not only renamed but the speed is much faster than NewMediaExpress too, just like Viewquest.

Any feedback on the Dlink AC router that is bundled with a 100 Mbps contract? How is the wired performance and the 5 Ghz range? I don't care about wireless AC. Comparable to the ASUS N66?

wired is good. only the 2.4 ghz performance is average.

@5 ghz, it is on par to ASUS AC66 - tested using note 3

Hi,

I am a hardcore PS3 player and all this while my NAT was Opento my horror after last night's scheduled maintenance by SH, this morning my NAT become Moderate!! I am unable to join my friends using Singtel in COD.

Called 1633 and the tech said its not their problem as the maintenance was initiated and carried out by Open Net. They said they will raise this to Open Net.

Anyone here has an idea how to get my Open NAT back?

Thank you.

Thanks. How does it compare to the Asus N66?

it probably only affects theoretical speeds unless you're using 1gbps internet...

asus router range is always better. but since the dlink ac is free, i dont the extra $100-200 for a new router with only minimal improvement is justified...

on a side note, anyone knows what's the uplink and downlink speed of dlink 865l and asus ac66/n66?

I think smallnetbuilder has the answer to that.
