If you don't need wifi, you can connect to directly to your ONT port from your PC.

If you need wifi, then you will get to connect ONT ---> your router -----> your pc.

On your router, you should see a internet socket, that one is for your to connect to the ont.

To connect to pc from your router, you can use any lan port on the router.

To connect to pc from your ONT, you need to use only the port opened by SH, i.e out of the 4 ports on the ONT, only one can use.

Just called SH. Say don't support voice. I don't quite buy what the CSO saying. She can't tell the difference between router and ONT. Technical dep will call me back

Update me. If can, I will ask them to swap the ont and sign up the voip.

So ... SH only opens up 1 port on ONT to be used?!! What if there's someone only wired up his house with 3pcs, totally w/o wifi??

Bk to my case, meaning I'll have to connect Cat5e cable to router, as I do have wifi running for other devices.

Thanks.

That is what the router is for. Nothing to be surprised

Yup, my bad, that's why it's called "router" but just that those other 3 empty ports on the ONT confused me. LOL.

Is there any way that each time when I reached home, can get my devices to log onto 5G 1st instead of 2.4G? Only when 5G unavailable, like I inside my room, then switch over to 2.4G? Because I'm on 2.4G now whenever logged on , I got to manually switch over 5G... Is there such thingee as auto switching, giving priority to 5G?

Setup two different SSIDs to differentiate the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz network. Manually select the 5Ghz and tick the 'connect automatically' (or similar) checkbox. Done.

Thanks for the kind reply.

I've done ask the basics, 2 diff SSIDs etc. But each time logging onto wifi, always 1st to log onto 2.4G rather than the faster 5G, I've got to manually switch over to 5G. Hence, my question is, is there a way to prioritize the 5G over 2.4G every time I log onto wifi?

If it's the same name, it'll simply latch on to the network with better signal strength. In other words, no there is no way to prioritize the 5Ghz, because the signal strength of 5Ghz tends to be weaker than 2.4Ghz.

That's sth interesting to me... so does that mean if I assigned both the 5G & 2.4G using same SSID, each time I log on my devices will simply be attached to the stronger 5G? But any "side effect" ? Thanks again!

.

It's not an SH decision. The ONT is for the OpCo - in this case Nucleus Connect. Each port is intended for one RSP. In your case, port 1 is for SH. If you add MR, port 2 will be used by MR. Etc.

Ah, I learn sth useful today! Thanks.

What abt having both 2.4G & 5G on same SSID ? Any negative impact? Or nobody will do that? Thanks again.

well, unless you are having line of signal, else technically speaking, your 2.4 ghz signal is stronger than your 5 ghz, if there are walls in between your device and the router.

Any Mac users here using extenders/repeaters to get better wifi signal? Im seated in the corner of my room and the signal is pretty blah. 2.4GHz speeds are faster than 5Ghz speeds even.

Any recommendations? :(

... but we're all living in concrete jungles, full of walls, L & R. Then what's the pt of upgrading to ac routers when n will do a much better job..? Only benefit I can think of, it's less crowded .. :s12:

I got it installed yesterday. Is there any settings I should do to the modem other than setting the password to get a better performance?

I'm able to get 100Mbps with lan cable but the wireless speed is not good at all.
I could only get 600kb/s download speed when I'm beside the modem with 2.4Ghz. I disabled 5Ghz since my laptop can't use it.

less crowded, offer faster speed.

and if you stay in big house, strategically placement 2 ac router and use them as wireless bridge mean you do not need to lay cable to your house plus getting a few cheap routers will able to you have wifi all over place.
