Are you using Windows 7? According to their website, your Vertex 2 has native TRIM support so the performance should not deteriorate so much.

I think you will need to do a secure erase to bring the drive back to its original performance, but that will mean that you will lose your information on the drive.

For me, I just did a clean install and left everything else alone. But I did disable system restore, defrag and hibernation. Didn't specifically install any drivers, just left everything to Windows Update.

I'm assuming you're referring to 128GB.
Get the Crucial M4 128GB. The difference in response is very obvious, you won't regret it.

I'm not sure if the OCZ issues have all been resolved. The M4 does not have any known issues so far. Mine has been working fine.

at the same price range, assuming u do not need sata3, it would be better if u go for the ocz vertex 2.

I beg to differ. It's better to avoid OCZ or any other SSDs using the Sandforce controller until they've ironed out the BSOD issues. To understand the extent of the bug, just google OCZ BSOD.

I certainly hope it does, their prices are very attractive. If they really manage to fix the BSOD problems, I'm looking at getting a 256GB one for my laptop. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for now.

heh... all the talk about BSODs scaring everyone off the SSD bandwagon.

i myself started off using the kingston 96GB V+100 SSD. no issues with that. however, the garbage collection causing constant IO activity to be registered is so intense it can be irritating, at least to me. OCZ running the SF controller has been stable for my laptop, which i use to run regular vms, and does not have the issue which kingston has. not a single BSOD to date. so, i guess OCZ made me a a happier man

latest firmware is v1.35 on OCZtoolbox 2.40.07, if anyone's interested..

I'm using OCZ Agility 3 120GB about few weeks and never had a BSOD from my daily usage. Firmware 2.15 yes.

It's OCZ and their "can be considered past" issues with their SSDs which is scaring people off..

Luckily it seems that the issues are finally nipped in the bud otherwise nobody is going to buy even if it's the cheapest among other brands..

I am using Agility 3 with windows 7. I believe fresh install and windows 7 is key to problem free. I am only v2.11 and 4 versions away from latest. Still, I am error free no bsod or anything.

My SSD gone case after around 6 months usage a few days back, Intel support never got back to me... tmr going to thrash them liao.
