i would say the sata bandwidth limit is taken into consideration when the controller chips are designed. Sandforce/Marvell/etc are not going to design a chip that will exceed Sata 3 bandwidth...

Well that's obvious. Why would they do that? This is becoming a market where performance doesn't crawl up incrementally (like processors or gpus), rather skyrockets with each new generation. Pci-e solutions like revodrive overcome the SATA 3 bandwidth limitations, but not everyone has a pci-e x4 slot to spare (not me, for one). For most people, it just makes more sense to use a SATA port for a hard disk replacement rather than PCI-E.

The SATA 3 interface (which is currently less than 3 years old) will actually become the bottleneck to further performance by the next generation (gen 4) of ssds.

Not sure where did you see the G3 review? I hope you don't mean the Intel 510 review cause that us not G3. G3 is suppose to be official on the 28th, which is Monday.

I believe Intel's 80GB G3 is their value drive meant to replace their current 40GB model at the moment. So best to wait for the higher capacity drives to see the performance.

Really? I tink its really too small even for os usage. programs installation easily takes 2-3GB per installation

If it is just OS and applications that you are installing, I believe 80GB is more than enough. Other than games, I hardly see any applications that require a lot of space. With everything I need installed, it should not take up more than 40 to 50GB of the drive. Rest of the stuffs will be stashed in my mechanical drives.

yea, it boils down to each usage also.
for me, i dont have photoshop, video editing software, thus 80gb is more than enough for me.

80Gb more than enough for OS and main applications.

Win7 + Adobe Creative Suite + MS Office = ~50Gb.
