Was thinking of installing 64gb as boot for winxp but was fearful since no trim. Hows the performance so far? Current pc working so don't wanna spend to upgrade just for ssd and xp is stable.

You can consider using Intel or Samsung SSDs if really wish to stay on XP.

They have utility tool which can perform manual /schedule TRIM.

yes, i dual boot win7 n xp :s42:

Thanks for your quick reply. :)

Just to confirm before I go for the SSD.

1.partition the 128gb SSD to 2 partitions.
2.install the XP on the first partition
then install win7 on the second partition

Is this correct ?
Any other points I miss out ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

SSD suddenly can't be detected by Win7!

I have 3 Crucial M4 128GB SSDs, bought no more than 2 weeks ago. Version is 0309. 1 is for the OS, C:/, the other 2 for stuff, E:/ and F:/. I've done almost all the tweaks recommended to make the SSDs more efficient etc.

So, in the middle of converting a video and saving it to E:/, a window pops up and says the file can't be saved and to check if there's enough space on SSD.

Puzzled, I opened Computer and find that E:/ is missing.

BIOS detects the SSD but Disk Management and Device Manager don't.

I've switched cables, booted up with just the C:/ and 'missing' SSD...nothing.

All my pictures, mp3s...disappeared. :(:(:(

Can anyone help me? Thank you.

So you're saying the SSD is dead? Nothing I can do about it?

If so, it's under 3 year warranty. How do I go about claiming this if I bought from Buy.com?

I am only restricted only to SATA 2 connection. :s13:

I am okay with anything as long is reliable.

Well, but a SATA3 SSD will work just as well in it. The more popular ones currently are the Crucial and Intel ones. I'm using both and they have been rock solid. You can probably consider the Crucial M4 or the Intel 330.

It's okay sticking with Intel 320 so long you don't foresee moving it to a SATA 3gb/s platform in the future. The 5 years warranty is also a enticing carrot.

If you decide to go for SATA 3gb/s, Crucial M4 (marvell controller) is a reliable alternative. The replacement for 320, Intel 330 (sandforce) is also pretty decent price & specs wise.

330 being a fairly new model, I can't vouch for it like the M4 but it's an Intel so should be quite stable.

I have a Intel 320 SSD 120GB to let go. PM me if you are interested.

What Operating System? Are C: and E: on same controller or different?

Win7 Pro 64bit
The faulty drive is just for storage.
The controllers are the same, since they're all Crucial M4 128gb SSDs.

Updated firmware to 000F. Win7 still can't detect in Device Manager or Disk Management.

I think I will go for M4. Can I just use the acer recovery disc to reinstall the os ? :)

Depends what type of recovery disc. Most types are merely cloning programs that retrieves the hidden recovery partition on the HDD.

Some actually do contain the windows files on the disc itself.
