I got a question.

I practically swim 20 laps of breaststroke every week. But i feel that i have not gained anything. My muscles are not aching or whatsoever.

Is there anything wrong?
Am i swimming too casually?
What should i do to make the most benefit out of swimming breaststroke?

I tried the front crawl, but after a few weeks of consistent swimming with it, I got pain in my rotator cuff. I went back to breast stroke and the pain went away. Maybe it's the wrong technique, but I find that breast stroke is more forgiving in terms of injury through constant swimming.

i have injuries to my back and hip and breaststroke actually worsens the condition. this is becos of the kicking technique applied. so for me freestyle is actually the most beneficial swimming technique.. swim frontcrawl in the correct technique u get the best therapy for your back and corrects your spine alignment too...

breaststroke is slow.. if u want to feel some effects u have got to sprint... or when u pull your hands/arms towards your body, do it forcefully...

something like one forceful pull, forcefull kick, then a long glide and repeat all over

Swim breast stroke in long duration can actually help developing your abs too. High elbow refers to open armpit at the pull and push phase. Not in the air.

Anyone has any idea what is high elbow in front crawl swimming? Is supposed to be high eblow in the air or in the water?

uhh...u answering your own question? or are u just particularly confused about front crawl?

high elbow in the air (inverted V shape) is for u to slide the arm into water gracefully and not make a splash entry... u will automatically swimm faster if u cut out the splashing..

Do speed work (cardio) does most of your workout in any sport discipline. In your breast stroke swimming, I have draw some schedule for you to try on.

1) Swim 100 meter in 2 mins
2) Rest 1 mins
3) Repeat step 1 and 2 for 5 sets.
4) Swim 50 meter in 1 mins
5) Rest 30 sec
6) Repeat step 4 and 5 for 5 sets
7) Wam down.

Have fun.

Yes... agree with you. Slice in your arm into the water like a sharp knife making your body look slippery in the water. Is an art. :)

Swimming improved our back muscles and make us able to keep our back straight. It help the muscle therefore preventing slip disc. :)

If you cannot complete 100 meter in 2 mins then give yourself a time frame that you can comfortably complete lor. Anyway... over the time you should be able to improve on your own timing. :) Do not lose heart and have faith in yourself then you can be back on track.

That is so right. Gliding come in after completion of the kick with leg mantain in straight and toe in planta flex position while the arm still straight with locked elbow. The whole body again in the streamline position when the gliding take place. :) Good point.

There are 2 leg kick in a buttlerfly stroke. Minor kick after arm recovery (Gliding) and major kick for arm recovery. :) Perhaps can meet for swim discussion. Why the interest? Want to be a swim coach? :)

Hardly sees anyone swim butterfly when I go swimming ...

Is it difficult to learn ???

I have trouble learning to swim freestyle already, cant imagine butterfly ...

Always see those pple swim freestyle splashing here and there, looks

more like struggling in the water than swimming ... haha ... :s22:

cuz ppl, learn FS/BS first before learning BF.

Difficult in the sense, it is more strength and quality strokes is needed.

i am also not a fan of freestyle.

like i said FS hard to learn, but easy to master.

for learning free style, i thinking of buying the float which i can put in between my legs. This will help to keep my legs up while practising on the arms movement. You think its a good idea?
Cos most of the time y i cannot continue is because i focus on my arms and my legs sink down.....
