The world has become one giant balancing scale.

When one country or industry gets bloated, overpaid, or offers jobs with remuneration that exceeds the actual work and skillset required, there will be outsourcing. Imported labour. Relocation of entire operations.

The IT side had its 7 years of bountiful harvest. The clever ones would have diversified and consolidated rather than blown everything on parties, nice houses and flashy cars.

Frankly speaking they have no one to blame for an inevitable course of events.

Nowadays tech companies first to axe is sales. Look at AWS, FB, Google

This is in US / UK where there is a lot of move towards offshoring (esp to India). In Singapore, FT from MY, IN, PH come and earn X3, X5 salaries. No decrease at all.
But the margin pressures will come to Asia too, it’s just not that much at the moment as Asia is still growing, and the spotlight is on the US/Europe.
I even see onshore Sg Indian FT competing w offshore Indians for some internal roles now. The more expensive AMDK are sent packing.
In the long run, only roles which are onsite and customer facing are safe.

Japanese firms are sending their finance n corporate planning out of sg, maybe even marketing as they want clients from Asean countries.

It is happening.

Two friends from a Big Tech co. last year were told due to cost cutting, to choose between holding the same role but at one grade lower or leave with payout. This was a top down global policy applied across many departments to cut costs. One took the paycut and title was changed from manager back to executive, but same role. The other left for greener pastures.

I also know of places where people were let go and the same job function was taken up by a cheaper team. Or more expensive people are let go, and they had to find a job with lower salary due to current market.

So the net effect is “salary went down”.

Well as always, in the real world it depends correct? For example my main job currently is axe man. I identify excesses and trim them with automation and or outsourcing. If one can do AI/ML that will be used to replace IT personnel with intelligent automation, plenty of high paying jobs.
