My Z5 does heats up a little when playing Pokémon Go but not to a extent to causing great amounts of stutters in the game.

While doing other things on the phone, it doesn't heats up that much too.

Z5 tends to heat up. Eh correction, Sony phones tend to heat up. Mine also gets toasty when I stream videos and play certain graphic intensive games. Guess it's an area Sony needs to sort out.

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and Apple iPhone 7 launching soon, I guess there's no place for the Z5 among the top ranking smartphones. Still loving my device though, and hoping to see something spectacular from Sony soon. Would be sad if they decide to close down the smart phone business.

No need to be partial. My sony and sammy phones all heat up after heavy gaming.

Not being partial luh haha. I'm a Sony fanboy, been using nothing but Sony since the start of the smartphone era. Z5 is my first flagship model though, and suffers from heating just like the other mid-tiers Sony I owned.

I'm not a very tech-savvy guy but hear it's because of the processor?

Yup, the Snapdragon 810 is infamous for its overheating issue but Sony did try to tame down the dragon's heat by having two heat pipes in the Z5 to regulate the heat produced.

My Z5P temperature typically stays around 42c during heavy gaming, Z3 and S5 at 39-40c.

I think the difference of 2c is not a huge problem as many sees.

Mind sharing what game you played for that temperature? Mine goes quite high on angry birds 2.

I had been playing racing game - Drift girls (from Google play Japan) and FF Brave Exvius lately.

The racing game will naturally heat up the phone faster but my Z5P stays around 42 - 42.5c.

what u guys use to measure phone temp?

There are benchmark apps which will have detailed temperature readings of the internal hardware of the phone.

I am using those simple lockscreen app with phone temperature readings at notification bar.
These apps will only show basic readings compared to the benchmarks apps, so the results could be similar to the heat you are feeling on the phone surface.
