But why is there alot of trouble? If there is no corporate growth, the lower borrowing costs help to sustain share buybacks.

It is a sign that whatever is thrown to spur growth would not work as excesses of the past needs to be worked out before we see growth coming back. So it may be potentially downside all the way from here.... Trade war, currency war all means the reversal of Globalisation and it may then be every country for itself. This type of backdrop is just not promising and we had a lesson from history before.... The United States, Smoot-Hawley Act in 1930, levying tariffs of 50% on imported goods started the Great Depression.

If China throw a bombshell announcement during the second hk unrest meet later on. That'll do swing on the asian markets.

It can cut both ways. I only pray that there would not be any bloodshed and hope that such things do not happen in Singapore.

People who compare S&P500 of today with Jan 2018 and say it has moved nowhere, are wrong. At that point USD was weak. USDSGD was 1.3 for example. Today USDSGD is 1.38. So it is not the same. The USD strength needs to cripple S&P500 to 2500 levels, only then it is same.

What about the liquidity in the market? You mean to say this currency war is a catalyst for a global stock market reset?

No I am not saying that the currency war is such a catalyst.

I am saying that if the Fed cuts aggressively and we do not get any improvements, then its a symptom of a deeper malaise and excess that needs to be worked out with time and effort and we may not see those type of V shape rebound that we have seen prior. The current situation of trade and currency war is akin to the trigger for the 1930s depression... it was triggered by a trade war then. So there are mitigating measures to lessen the impact of this trade war such as fed cuts etc. But if they do not work, would we see a repeat of the 1930s? I am not saying that this is a central scenario but think that one cannot rule it out as well.

In any case, I am looking to build up my portfolio on the dip. But would not start if the dip is shallow.

Bro, most bull-y/bears here know that. Markets sentiment are bad, the most fearful will occur when the hedge fund sucker teams start to fear short everywhere and even Trump's tweet up is useless.

DJI close on the fib retrace of 38.2%. It could go further to 61.8%(Jun 2019 low) or even 127.2%(Dec 2018 low). You no scare?:D

My last buy was in Dec.

I reduced or sell ~8% of my portfolio recently.

I'm buying back using partial of that 8% now.

I plan to buy in stages on the way down.

The US economy is still considered strong though. I somehow still see this drop in stock market valuation as just a correction at most... Yes, the currency war has negative effects worldwide but how negative it will be I'm not sure. I think the rise of usdcny above 7 is just a message and symbolic. I'll think it gets more worrying if the rate further increase as that demonstrates commited action to currency devaluation. Maybe I'll need to research more into this currency war impact.

Serious market correction these few days. It looks like it will continue for the rest of the week.
