A lot of stocks go to zero or below ur cost price before it gets privatised or delisted.

Just look at the bigger picture.

If you buy the correct stocks, your upside is unlimited.

Your downside is 100% only.

Was NOL the correct stock? Singapore GLC, Singapore is a shipping hub. Cannot go wrong.

Was Hyflux the correct stock? Singapore needs clean water, Seems like close ties with govt, got PUB contract to BTO. Cannot go wrong..

need to say more... Still got those privatised below your cost price because founder thinks market depressed the price too much, they buy you out and then relist in HK or relist next time ..

If you are lousy investor or trader that happens to buy stocks like Noble, NOL, Hyflux only then better don't deal with stocks.

I guess this is the place to rest, bear falling in. The trade war is not the only bearish factor. Declining birth rates in many developed countries will kill the bull. The biggest deflation wave is on its way!

There is no foolproof strategy aka holy grail. But sensing mistakes early is a good skill to have and of course selling at the right time. But sometimes cut and it turned around and took off. Sometimes wrong is a norm. Then what is it to argue which strategy is superior? Money in your account is yours but money in stocks is subjected to the whim of the market.

But what if you are right... let it run or if you have balls... add more. :D

Let's hope luck is on our side. :s8:

I am holding more than 30 counters yet never had any interest to hold noble, nol or hyflux. Agree if u bought all those stocks there's something wrong with u rather then proof that stock picking always lose money

Long term investors are the REAL winners. =:p

Short term traders will get slaughtered.

Not all long term investors will be winners, a person who is actively managing his portfolio can still lose money over the long term if he has poor stock picking skills.

Same thing for pt 2, not all traders will get slaughtered, I think there are very few people on here who has done better than me over the last 10 years.

Oh, people who sell courses and books are winners too.

Add on: Zerohedge, brokers, banks are winners too.

Yep can't agree more. :s13:

Btw please don't be a perma bear, you cannot win because stocks have a natural tendency to move higher over time, its especially true now that the alternatives are so poor, you will win 20% of the time but get crushed the other 80% of the time.

No point debating over methodology. At the end of the day, the money is in my bank account and that's all that matters... if you make money by being a long term investor, then good, if short term trading floats your boat, it is also good. Both type of investing or trading requires skill. Do what you think best and be responsible for your own actions.

I planted a single seed in sgx and no interest for the rest too, and of course you need to have a war chest occasionally replenish them with water and fertilizer it to shield thru the stormy days or else it'll just a dead nut no matter how long you keep [clue] :D

The population may be aging, but it's also decreasing. There will be lesser and lesser older folks, as the generation of baby boomers die off. These companies will only enjoy a temporary boom before facing over supply. The bear will consume the bull piece by piece, slowly chewing and savouring the juiciness. Yummy!

Hrnet is on down trend now. Can buy at lower price

Strangely I never came across HRNet while changing jobs and I changed jobs many times. The ones I am familiar are Hays, Robert Walters, Robert Half, Randstad, ikas etc
