Haven't put it on my test bench yet, have to wait till after my brief break. Looks good on paper though so don't be too surprised if it performs as well as its predecessor, the Z77 version, which is a hot favourite among its owners (see the OCN owners thread).

Meanwhile...

From what can be seen, this is an unusual pioneering attempt to liven up Intel's otherwise staid non-o'c H87 chipset, dressing it in the Red Black colour combos of high end gaming models. There have be no prior Fatal1ty model for H series chipset till now. And afaik, no other mobo makers have done any similar moves.

Will consumers bite and go for it? And will you?

Hands on testing to be done after next week... so keep tuned in . :)

Thanks for the preview mac. I think the h87 is s decent chipset. It should be a good alternative for users who don't*wish*to over clock their cpu. But not many vendors make a normal atx size motherboard based on this chipset. It would be a nice budget full size board otherwise.

Glad you found it useful, guess Asrock decided there is no real need to punish non-ocers with plain mobos from now on. :D

On another note.

What voltage do you run your cache or ring at? Saw this pic over at OCN forums and got me intrigued.

vRing < vCore can cause damage??? 1st time seeing this warning.

Hmm, above pic shows Vcore and Vring taking up to 2.0V and Ram allowing <1.65V (more than the official +10% ie. 1.575V of earlier gens).

Seems like I somewhat found the stable voltage, 1.180V for my i5-4670k @ 4.3Ghz.
Left 12h Prime95 Blend Test to do...

wrt post #430

Still haven't found any other incriminating evidence that Vring < Vcore is detrimental to the components so simply did the next safest thing (probably).

Now running my chip at Core-Cache-GPU 4.5/4.2/1.5GHz all at exactly 1.18V Adaptive all round, tada! :D

Comparing Extreme 6 vs Extreme4
- seems very similar in features and performance in daily usage, both are officially specced at 12 power phase

Notes

★ Sample size of just 1 retail chip
★ The Z87 Extreme4 is able to clock the i5 to the same 4.5GHz (heat limited) as the Extreme6
★ if you are chip limited for o'cing, do most of us actually need those > USD400 mobos?

Hi MacClipper,

I just oc my 4670k to 4.4ghz using the extreme 4. Ran linx64. But I am wondering why my timing so much different from urs. Urs is 5plus seconds whereas mine is always 10plus seconds. Any clue?

Going by current Newegg pricing, this model is priced around USD250 which is below that of competing gaming models from most other makes. Hands on testing to follow, after my break.

Yeah, the Fatal1ty series is targeted more at the gaming and bling bling crowd than the extreme o'cers. Hence the striking bright red-black contrasty looks with no extraneous components to push up the costs eg. Conformal coat, LN2 mode etc...

Should look great in a lit windowed casing. :)
