Hi all

Good news for all Nexus 4 import owners.

Just an update: I just sent my phone back through SingPost. It cost only $21.70 SGD inclusive of tracking number & a brown-parcel envelope with bubble wrap over nexus 4 package. It will take 6-8 days to arrive in US destination address. When the new phone reached your door step (google assumes its the mailing destination address), you will need to return the faulty phone for RMA within 21 days. Unless you are in US, or you decide to pay for faster air mail, if you need more time to mail back to LG Electronics, then contact Google to request for time extension.

Also, send back all original packaging with accessories or LG may charge you for every missing accessories. I highly doubt they will charge you for a missing manual, usb cable, or even the pin for sim card slot removal.

Total cost to fix my phone, SGD $35.45
  • CGW - US $11.00 or SGD $13.75 (free upgrade to express 3-5 days)
  • SingPost - SGD $21.70 (6-8 days delivery + tracking + parcel envelope)
Here are SingPost services you can use to send your item back. Apparently, SingPost mentioned that many singaporeans use this the standard option very often to ship items to US. Both services are delivered in the same fashion, it's just a matter of time (stored in their warehouse) before it reaches US.

My nexus 4 phone was down for 1 week+. The new one came back with new audio design. It's all well-worth it for the replacement overseas than local LG that replaces only the broken parts. Since I got all new parts and phone, I'll recommend you to do the same as well than to go back LG Singapore.

The phone does not support 2.1A chargers well and screen still goes alittle cranky.

Can send back for unresponsive power button? issit under warranty? what are the steps to RMA to google?

TIA

But I forgot to send in my other half of my warranty card within 14 days and LG CSC is far.:s22:

I'm quite sure you won't have an issue with LG regarding your warranty card.
Just bring your receipt along and they should recognise the date you bought it.

Got yellow tinted screen, local warranty, should I go and warrant it?

If its only slight yellowish tint, its actually the stock preset profile. But if the phone is new, this might be due to the glue used for the screen, wait a few days and see if the tint goes away

Update: I helped you check with Google, these power button faulty are covered under warranty as long as the phone is still under warranty and is not due to third-party DIY repair mistakes. Google expects any wear and tear defects including scratches on the phone.

call Google Nexus support hotline. i've detailed some information in the thread above that should help you with the RMA. whether it's under warranty, i'm not sure. However after you sent in the phone, at most you will only be chargeable for the parts that are faulty. You will only need to send back the phone after you receive the new phone and are expected to send back the phone within 21 days. The slowest singpost service took only 6-8 days for my phone to arrive back at LG Electronics.

Don't forget to provide the singpost tracking numbers to Google soonest. If the shipping has been lost or delay, there will be no additional charges.

Here are some additional info that you will need,

Hi, where did you stick the shipping label and rma form provided by google support or is the label not required if using singpost shipping? Has your phone reached US?

Yes it's in US already. Cheers.

See the image here on how to pack the RMA label and shipping label.

Follow the RMA return instructions on the website.
https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2462890
  • Returns cannot be processed without a return merchandise authorization (RMA). If you don't have an RMA, please email our support team so we can send you one. Please print it out and place it inside the box prior to sealing.
  • Pack the device and its in-box items in the original box. Include all items from your original shipment, including devices, accessories, packaging and documentation. But do not send us your additions, for instance your SIM card, a case or an extended battery and battery cover door.
  • Pack the device in the original shipping box with sufficient packaging materials to prevent the device from moving around and being damaged in transit.
  • After speaking with one of our support agents, you will receive a UPS shipping label via email. Please be sure to print out this shipping label and apply it on the outside of your sealed box.

The shipping label is not required since you are mailing it from Singapore, I packed the whole box inside my separate bubble wrap. I still pasted it on the original delivery box provided by LG.

Rather than RMA-ing and being phoneless for weeks, just buy a power button from eBay & switch it out yourself.. Took about 2 hours for me.

During RMA exchange, there's no need to send the Nexus 4 phone back before the new phone arrives. I was nearly carried away by the benefits of changing the buttons in 2 hours. There are other factors also. I've done up a table with the facts to help our Nexus 4 members,

Shipping at best requires 5-7 days from LG USA to your singapore home address. for a brand new Google Nexus 4 with existing warranty retained, the expected cost should only be SGD$35. I have checked with Google, wear and tear defects such as buttons losing its functionality or speakers losing its loudness, is expected and are covered under warranty. so as long as it is not broken or phone has not been taken apart by third-party other than LG, Google will exchange the phone without additional charges.

For approx SGD $8 for a DIY power button replacement kit, third-party buttons, delivery of around 1-2 weeks by free mail service provided by ebay seller from HK, and intangible benefits of learning how to fix nexus 4. It seems like a good deal for some, but most will definitely not risk damaging their phone. It might not be worth it.

Those who are into repairing gadgets will know that third-party buttons do not behave the same way as the original button.

Consider that repairing your phone outside LG voids your warranty during it's warranty period. it's safer to go for RMA.

No need. Tell the singpost personnel that it is for returning to the manufacturer - show them the shipping label to help them understand your situation. You will need to write "FOR RETURN" under declaration portion with the item detail.

I will use Vpost to ship the replacement nexus phone from US.
Do I need to pay the GST again for that importing the replacment unit?
Thanks for your post. [Mine power button not working at all. So, after I read your post, am now communicating with Google and they agree to send me the replacement unit.]

- Hi, just wanna share my experience.
- I just call direct to google. (+1-855 836 3987)
- What you need is the IMEI and the purchased order number (20 digit and 16 digit numbers).
- They will email you back the RMA and you just have to follow the instruction. (Provided your claim is within the warranty)

  1. So LG USA do send direct to Singapore address?
  2. When Google send you a replacement set tru LG USA, it will deduct tru your credit card. Till you send back the faulty, they will refund back to you, right?
Thus, RMA of set is carry out by LG USA, since google dun send to Singapore. Am I right?
