Are you sure nothing changed other than the RAM? Different CPU, flash storage all have effects on speed. There is also the placebo effect after changing phone :D

Same processor. Mi5 to mi5s plus. Sd821.

Yes I know placebo but multitasking with different apps (non games) there was no waiting to load or blank screens anymore

I had the N6P that has 3GB ram so I know you don't need so much ram to have a zippy phone. It's about optimization rather than throwing more memory to compensate for it. For me, I'd prefer to use the money else where since I don't see the urge to push the manufacturer from thinking that more is better.
I'd rather they spend more time optimizing but they won't be able to justify the cost increase without throwing hardware to support it.
You gave a good example of Apple and how well they optimized their OS that's even with 2GB ram, it still runs faster than most phones double or triple the memory. I don't want to pretend I know how Apple code their OS but if you tell Apple their phone need 8GB to cache whatever you throw at it, they will laugh at you point blank and say u need better engineers :D
Think out of the box and think efficiency. See what google has coming in the next Pixel? Have 6GB or 8GB ram?
I am not going to convince you anymore since you are willing to pay more so more power to you. Just enjoy your phone is what matters most. Cheers!

My wife's n6p slowed down like mad after their last update, but even before that she would experience the 'blank loading screen' when switching between apps already.

Switched to a 6gb ram mi5s plus and all gone.

Oh one more thing about the OP5 the sd835 is really a jump from Sd821, processor usage % is so much lower in cpu-z nowadays

Not same dude, sd820 vs sd821

I had the mi5s plus before, it's a pretty fast phone

The good thing with Nexus phones are the custom ROMs. You should unlock the bootloader and flash some custom ROMs, sd810 has quite a few problems to boot but slow is not what I've encountered. Also prepare your wife in case of boot loop. Backup before it's too late plus there is currently a "sorta" workaround but you need to at least enable OEM unlock in developer option before boot loop hits

OP has quite a good support and amount of custom ROMs too. Esp when they can get CAF builds it is almost an infinite support from the qualcomm themselves

Yup, they attracted quite a lot of fans since the OP1 days. I had the OP1 for over 1 year and my fav ROM was the dirty unicorn. I had dirty unicorn on pretty much all my sd810 phones such as N6P, g3 and op1

Hi anyone changed from a Galaxy S8 5.8" to Oneplus 5? How bad are the low light shots? Is the vibration motor just as strong as the Galaxy S8?

Anyone facing NFC issues with the OnePlus 5? I can't get Android Pay to work at the MRT topup machine. Neither can the FlashPay app read my Flashpay card. I am on Oxygen OS 4.5.7.
