Does that mean prevencia more harmful to eyes than normal lens?, when the lights behind you is reflected to your eyes.

There have been no trials to show that the prevencia lens have been beneficial for the eyes. They only reflect about 20% of violet-blue light, a very narrow spectrum, too little to make any difference in my opinion.

Similarly, the amount of violet-blue light reflected into the eyes is very little. There is no evidence to show that it is harmful. IMO, too little to be harmful, unless a person has some specific disease.

There's no study to show the net amount of blue light received by the eye that is reduced by the prevencia lens.

For those that do not want the blue light reflections into the eye, there is the yellowish tinted lens that also blocks blue light

went to ban eyecare at holiday plaza. tell me bluewhale is US brand. check online aft make downpayment and realise is KL brand. ask them they say is bluewhale take lens from US manufacturer.

how to tell if the bluecoating reflect bluelight from your back to your eyes?

All anti-blue coatings will reflect blue light from the back to your eyes, unless there is an AR coating on the back surface, how effective this AR coating is at reducing the blue light back surface reflections though is uncertain.

some people say zeiss duravision blueprotect might have this back surface AR coating, you can check with those who have this lens if this is true and if there are any blue light back surface reflections.

Other anti-blue light lens work by incorporating a yellowish tint, which should last longer than coatings.

I went to JB focus point and i choose a Jaguar Fame + Hoya lens, quote RM 1470. Very expensive sia.. if buy in sg normally cost how much?

I not sure what are the terms for the lens, want UV, protect eyes from computer and phone and less glaring when driving at night.

I think the index is 1.60.

Most high index polymers absorb UV light 100%, so there's no need for additional UV absorption coating. (though some may argue there's a case for adding anti-UV reflective coating sometimes)

CR39 lenses lets in a bit of UV light

There are many types of hoya lens, from low-end to premium, so it's difficult to tell

go malaysia, dress and talk like singaporean, buy branded specs, confirm will be a target for chop carrot by all salesmen, there are some stories in this forum. Better to ask a malaysian friend to go along, otherwise buy in singapore

Generally, many people in this forum likes to go for branded lens. This is unnecesssary except for special cases, like you need very high index lens, double aspheric lens, or personalised freeform lens, special progressives, tints etc.

Other than that, many of the technology behind existing products have been around for many years, and the lens for both branded and unbranded lens are sometimes even made in the same OEM factory. Often the difference is due to marketing.

There are a wide variety of blue light reduction lenses on the market. But significant number of them have no evidence of benefit, it's more of marketing. it is doubtful that reducing a small percentage of blue light in a narrow spectrum can do much. There are others that will cut out more blue light, but that will change color perception.

Polymer lenses do not last forever. Instead of spending all the hassle travelling to malaysia to get expensive normal branded lenses with the risk of being chop carrot, might as well go to your neighbourhood shop to get economical unbranded lenses and change them yearly.

We can have a more detailed discussion in this forum

some manufacturers' product, like prevencia if I'm not wrong, have an anti-uv reflective coating added. So it depends on which products you are getting

I shine a torch light to the back side of my prevencia lens and saw a purple reflection.

That's right prevencia only have an anti-reflection for UV (if I'm correct), not for violet and blue light, thus they will reflect back, the purple light is probably violet and not uv. Most of the spectrum in UV light cannot be seen.

Also, even if there is indeed uv light reflected off blue reduction lens, the amount is likely to be small in normal usage and unlikely to make any impact for anyone with healthy eyes. This is my point of view, and there are not studies to prove or disprove it, which may or may not be due to the fact that it is seen as too trivial an issue.

Hi people, I intend to get glasses made in JB. These glasses should have non-prescription transition lenses with blue colour filter coating. I have a couple of questions:

1) Would making such glasses be the cheapest option with decent reliability?

2) If I only wanted to make custom lenses for a frame that I currently own, would doing it in JB be a good option?

3) Based on my requirements, which shops can I look for within JB? I don't mind making a totally new pair with frame and lenses.

4) Generally, what ballpark figure should I be looking at paying for this?

Which optical shop can recommend to do progressive lens with reasonable price ?

There are two types of progressives.

Before progressives were bifocals, which had a sharp transition from the distance to the near reading zone. A line can be seen separating the two zones. This is probably the most economical.

Then came progressives which had a continuous gradual transition from the distance to the near. These came in stock lenses where the progressive feature is incorporated into the front side of the lens during moulding, while the lens power is surfaced at the back portion. Since these are stock lenses, the range might be more limited, e.g. you may not get them together with features like transition lenses

The newer generation of progressives are freeform, where they are available with a wider variety of lens and features and can be personalised. The progressive feature is surfaced into the back portion of the lens. This newer generation is more expensive. It is not necessarily more value for money for everyone though it is more advanced. Many do fine with the traditional progressives, though there might be people who prefer the more advanced.

As for which shops, you can either try some of the shops recommended in this forum before, or your trusted neighbourhood shop. How much depends on the brand of the lens, and the type of progressive. For traditional progressives, unbranded ones will do.

Mimeo.sg

This can be a website to check an estimate for what normal standard pair of single vision/progressives can cost. Their prices are transparent.

They also list prices for crizal lenses

Any shop can do tinted lens. You can bring your own sample lens there if you have.

Some sports sunglasses are polarized, that's the main difference.

Hi, I'm looking to do a tinted lens with degree as well!

Do you have any recommendations for optical shops to get this done?
