i had a crizal lens and did a comparison..somehow i felt like totally conned by the optical shop.. it fail the basic water test. its not as smooth as crizal when i wipe the lens also. I see a watermark labeled "SA3" duno wat that means. below are my pics when i receive my lens. I ask for a Hoya SFT coated lens initially. So do u tink this is not??:(

SA3 on your lens? Seems funny. I dont see any watermark on my HOYA SFT lenses, and the color of your lens looks normal, unlike the darker colour that SFT coating should have. The pic on your card seems to write HVP coating instead lei, which is cheaper type of HOYA coating. Im not 100% sure, you may need to look for further opinions to confirm this.

Last time I had the impression of lens quality grade:

Top - Zeiss, Nikon
Followed by - Essilor, Hoya, Seiko
Followed by - others

Am I right?

I went to one optical shop and is qouted $580 for 1.74 Hoya lens for 600+degree... is it super expensive? the person said that its the latest Hoya model with new technology

HOYA lenses are always tat expensive la.
I heard Nikon has been bought over by Essilor.
Seiko same rank as HOYA?? Hmmmm....
Essilor doing more of advertisement & HOYA more on R&D??

Anyone know which optical shop do lenses with glass.. My old pair of glass one last me for 7 years.. Frameless one.. Totally no scratch at all.. I hate pastic lenses.

Sad to tell you, but nowadays there are less & less lens maker who are producing glass lenses already. I think for branded, only HOYA still have & some local lens maker.
You hate plastic lenses but manufacturers love them becos they tend to get scratched much easily so that consumers have to keep changing them in order for their profits to soar!

Yes, from what I know Nikon is under Essilor but Essilor quality and product not as good as Nikon?

Seiko will no longer be available in Singapore next year onwards? because there is no more distributor in Singapore?

I'm all along Seiko user... for more than 15yrs... great lens... but now i'm doing for substitute because of the above reason...

then better choose HOYA / ZEISS. You wont know how long Nikon will last here. As for Essilor, they are a big player but too big & its not too good to bad-mouth them.

hmm, can i ask why rimless cannot do 1.74? I used to have a pair of rimless tagheur frame & its my optician who recommended me to make 1.74 instead of 1.67 as it looks better asthetically.
But u are right la, 1.74 RX is freaking expensive, HOYA only have one type of 1.74 & it costs $1,000.
Unless dont mind taking those unbranded lenses which costs ard $380 (for RX like mine).

he say it's too fragile. The lens might break easily without proper care.

I'm probably looking at Crocs or Rock Berries eyewear...

I'm wondering if those bigger shops would be more reliable? big mega eyewear shops like the one in suntec or the one in vivo city?

any recommendations of reliable places in the East or Central?

Depens on your affordability. 1.74 is not cheap but seems to be the thinnest plastic lenses around now.

i went to nanyang optical previously & the power of the lenses is not accurate. I wonder whether their QC job is done properly or not. Cos when i compare left side & right side, the right side is clearly blurred. And my power has been constant all these years. So i never went back anymore.

In $200 price range depending on store...

It is quite popular and available in many stores

Did u do the same lens brand and model? same power and axis etc...? If everything the same... should find out why it is blur
